Re: [TMIC] so stiff/Heather

2005-12-20 Thread Gillian Clark

Congratulations
Heather! Isn't it just amazing how our perception of what is important
changes with tm?

I had almost
forgotten the dizziness in the early stages. My greatest moment was being
to put my own shoes and socks on.

You are so right Gilly. I just take it one
day at a time with TM. I have reached my plateaux I think. (had
this since Sept 2003). However, every once in a while I notice something
I can do that I haven't done since '03. For example, I can now wash and
rinse my hair without having to keep one eye open so I don't lose my
balance. Didn't realize I could do it until one time I said to
myself "self - you are doing this with your eyes shut".Small thing but
  big to me.

G'day
Krissy,

sorry to hear
about your setbacks. not sure that the stiffness is part of no pt or just a
normal part of tm. You will learn that a lot of complaints are "JUST"
TM.

I think perhaps
you have reached some sort of plateaux but tm forever changes. Some things
will improve, some things will intensify. I found that once I accepted
that it was "just" tm, it was easier for me to cope, didn't worry so much about
each new symptom. Makes life easier, for me anyway, so I'm just passing on
what has helped me. May be of no use to you at all.

Take care and
keep as well as you can

  Just a small update and
  vent...
My left leg is good, I can
just about stand on my toes now, I still have that *wad of sand*
  under the toe area tho..
My right tho is soo stiff in
the knee and ankle area...sore at the calf sometimes,it does seem
  to have hit some plateau...
I had to stop my PT because
of lack of transportation and hubby's hours, and my free care ran
out. I do admit I have not kept up with the exercises at home, tho
I do walk alot. There are times now I feel I will not progress
past this point...to the dr's said 1-2 years he thinks I would be
*back to normal*I am sure the stopping of PT has alot to do
wit this stiffness, tho when I try and exercise it almost hurts.
I'm not sure I am at a point where I am giving up and I think,
I'll be this way the rest of my life. And I do know it is quite
possible. I don't want to be chasing rainbows..tho I really
thought I was going to get better again.
Anyway, just had to let it
  out.

One warning about blaming every little twitch on tm.I discovered when I had the tia and broke my leg that the fatigue and shortness of breath that I had always faulted tm for, was in fact the blockage in my left carotid..since the rotorooter surgery, the shortness of breath is much better, as for fatigue, who can tell at this busy! time of year??
