I think the doc on tomcatAuthentication at
http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-5.5-doc/config/ajp.html is decent, but
if you have some specific alternative/additional text in mind, please post it.

It would appear that this can be resolved by turning off Tomcat Auth at the 
connector level.

I was able to modify server.xml and add the 'tomcatAuthentication="false"' 
setting.

Perhaps a FAQ could help with this.

This is still an issue.  I have the problem with Tomcat 5.5.7 using the ISAPI 
redirector (not using apache HTTP).

This won't be addressed in 4.0 but do you get this in 4.1 too? 

Is tomcat configured to receive the REMOTE_USER from apache? (After your upgrade
from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4)

I am able to use REMOTE_USER with 4.0.4.

Please reopen if this is still an issue with 4.1.X.
