The script is good but not commited since : 1) It's mainly Unix related.
2) On Linux boxes supporting RPM, there is allready .rpm released which add the initd functionnalities which are platform specific. But your idea is good. So why not add specific stuff like this on a contrib subdir in tomcat's 3.3/4.x tree ? I could also in that case the spec for RPM, initd and many stuff there is in rpm on... what about : contrib/ contrib/linux/tomcat4.spec contrib/linux/tomcat4.init contrib/linux/tomcat4.wrapper => TC start/stop script with user priviledge contrib/linux/tomcat4.conf contrib/windows/tomcat.nsi tomcat4.wrapper is a TC start/stop with another user priviledge (security) tomcat4.conf is config stuff like tomcat4 user name, ...
