RE: failure notice

I was getting lot of these in morning.
1 once I delete immediately newone use to come.
So I went to tomcat folder in my exchange 
and shift-deleted all mails from Mailer-Daemon.
Then I deleted last mail.
Then I restarted exchange and started my virus scan(Norton ant Feb 4, 2004).
Now I stopped getting these emails.

The Configuration of Tomcat 5 can be done as follows.
If you have the jars which need specific arrangement.
1 You have to compile application with servlet standards Tomcat 5 are using.
2 Change catalina.properties file Add your path there.
3 Change catalina.xml if its important to you the order in which r=the jars are read.
4 You have to add the -Djava.class.path option in the service properties.
5 Give startin path for the Tomcat shortcut as the pathyour application jars are 
stored.

The bst thing if possible is not to have hard coded paths in application, but this is 
the thing if its 
something out of your control.

Anyhow, I don't think you should be explicitly setting any classpaths 
for anything. You should just dump all your JAR files into WEB-INF/lib 
and start Tomcat without any further configuration changes.

Note that putting servlet.jar into WEB-INF/lib is a mistake. Tomcat will 
probably refuse to load thar JAR anyways, so you might be okay (I know 
it does on mine .. oops :)

Tomcat 5 Problem with finding servlet class

As the application already have hard coded path references which are too tedious to

I am using specific directories to deploy my jars.
I am setting classpath manually.
This all works excellent with Tomcat 3.2.4

No Sir,
The tediousness is not because of laziness to remove the code but because of usage of 
3rd party code,
which we are not licensed to change and which is path specific.

I know this makes things far difficult than normal ways of deployment, but I am 
willing to do whatsoever to make it work with Tomcat.

Tomcat 5 Problem with finding servlet class

I have my jars in following manner.

webapps\gf\bin\all jars with third party code + standard jars

webapps\gf\WEB-INF\lib\my jars 
webapps\gf\*.jsp, *.htmls

I can not move the jars in bin as I have no control over code and they refer /bin/path
in their code.

To make this work with Tomcat 3.2.4 I have to only set classpath before starting 
Tomcat.
I do the same with Tomcat 5 I get error which suggests that its not finding 
servlet.jar.
which is there in webapps\gf\bin\servlet.jar.

That bug has been fixed already, and 5.0.14 will have the fix.

IMP:Problem migrating to Latest Tomcat 5

Hi,
We used to have application running with Tomcat 3.2.4
During that time we use to use to setup classpath while starting the Tomcat using bat 
file set classpath command
to include jar files from our application.

We use very simple deployment method using directory structure.
We just deploy webapplication directory.
We put our jar files at CATALINA HOME\webapps\ourapp\lib directory.
We put our jsp files at CATALINA HOME\webapps\ourapp directory directly.

When Tomcat starts it is not finding jar files inside the lib thus it gives error 
compiling
jsps.

I am able to make my application work if I put those files under CATALINA 
HOME\common\lib\.
But I do not want to do it again wrong way.

Can anyone suggest what I am missing, I went through documentation again and again.
Is there any aml or properties file where I have to make entry of my application.

Have you looked at the admin and manager apps that ship with Tomcat 4.1x and 
up?

Found out thwe problem.
One of our class is making hard coded refernce to resources that is creating trouble 
in deploying the application.

One more problem though.
I am trying to start Tomcat as service.
It starts and stops immediately
saying 
The apache service on computer started then stopped
some services stop automatically if they have no work to do

has anyone came across this.

You must have your JAR files at CATALINA_HOME\webapps\ourapp\WEB-INF\lib

Note the WEB-INF that's required.

Does Apache offers any Tomcat like version with GUI and features.

We are using Tomcat server version 3.2.4 with IIS for long time.
Our IT staff want to upgrade to environment with GUI but Tomcat based and
is ready to pay the fees if anything like that available.
Does any one know Tomcat based web serverseasy to operate and migrate the application?

what errors appeared in your error.log file for apache?


with them uncommented you might also might want to try running from the
command prompt
in the directory C:\Apache\bin\apachectl configtest
or wherever the bin directory is for your server
this will tell also give you the errors in to http.conf

make sure you can restart apache after you do that

once apache is able to start we will configure tomcat

This should ensure that you get a jk and not a jk2 file.  While jk2
should work I have never configured the tomcat side for jk2 use.

I would grab the one for 4.1.10.  The question marks most likely refer
to a question as to the version of apache it was compiled against.

You will only get Tomcat\conf\jk\mod_jk.conf-auto, if you configure
tomcat to generate it for you.  Let us not worry about that for the
moment

so for mod_jk.dll

for your http.conf you should have something like this

I like the files local to apache rather than tomcat but they can go
anywhere

place the attached workers.properties in path/to/apache/conf/ change 

I set worker.ajp13.port=8009, which is the default and it matches what i
have in the server.xml below

I commented out my lines for these two but you may need them, they are
sometimes optional.  If you need them change the path to point to your
java and tomcat installations

worker.tomcat_home=/opt_apps/jakarta-tomcat-4.1.18 to point to the root
of your tomcat install worker.java_home=/opt/java1.3 to where your java
is


in your server.xml
you need
