  try
mounting a Alias directory named "jetspeed" and tell apache its location..
yes, as you tell mod_jk should take care of it. But I don't think their would
be any harm in having a alias? (I have mounted all the dir with a alias name
  along with my mod_jk configuration)

  one
other possibility would be, check if you are running IIS or PWS  with
Apache, if that is the case. either stop them or assign them a different port
  number.

  With
the info.. I could not think of any specific reasons which might stop you to
  set this up..

  just
  try going through following tasks..

  1. ref. to mod_jk how to manual which you have
got along with tomcat, and set up your mod_jk with apache ( you have to mount
mod_jk in apache like this (hey, are u doing your own mod_jk .dll file from
source?if that is the case check your source for any possible error which can
  be induced in the source??)

  "include
  /jakarta-tomcat-3.2.1/conf/mod_jk.conf-auto"
  ( I
would recommend using conf-auto file, so that your tomcat will give all the
  details)

2.check your apache and tomcat. (just test run your
  example servlet via  apache)
  If
  your example application works fine..

  Go
ahead and mount a alias directory and try calling jet speed.

  in
case you get some error, check them in apache log and tomcat log for error
details, (I think that should help you solve the error)

  let
me know what is the error you are getting...So that I can try to get to the
  core issue.

  Also
note, if you are using winNT, check for environment variables setting too for
tomcat_home, Apache_home and java_home settings, since in your
tomcat configuration files, it picks up directory details calling this
  environment variables.

Note, check if your tools.jar file is accessible by
your system(it should be in system path)

  Hope
  this helps..
  Cheers

Hi all,
I checked my apache htdocs and saw that all files do have the readme
permissions.
My mod_jk.log looks like this, i think the error lies here. Please check
and suggest some solutions.

Just a thought on this thread and I've been guilty of this one as well, but
you might also want to check directory and file permissions. If the user
apache is running under does not have at least read permissions, the whole
thing will fail regardless of settings in any .conf file.

I know I've responded to this before without being much help, but I'm
willing
to volunteer hopefully a more constructive answer this time. I have Cocoon
running successfully after doing a lot of hunting on the web for answers to
different problems (and one or two hacks).

Could you post the mod_jk.conf and relavant parts of the Apache file you're
using (ie sections relating to permissions)? If mod_jk isn't working,
Apache's response should probably be more like 500 Server error. Anyone
with
more knowledge of mod_jk internals could give a better answer on this.

I think there's possibly something in Apache's config that's preventing the
request from being fulfilled. Maybe a Deny directive or an Order directive
switching up Allow and Deny the wrong way to. As a test, you could place a
static page on the servlet's directory and see if you can access it. As a
further test, comment our all the directives relating to mod_jk in
mod_jk.conf and restart apache leaving only the apache specific directives
in
place. This effectively takes mod_jk out of the picture (mod_jk.so
shouldn't
even load at this point) and only tests Apache's security settings.

Just my thoughts on the subject. Anyone else?

Hi,
  I had installed Tomcat 3.2.2, Apache 1.3.20
and Jetspeed 1.3a1.  Everythign was fine, except that i could not receive
any mails(the mails which has secret key).  I had configured a binary
version of Tomcat 3.2.2 which did not have any
webadapter(mod_jk.so)
Is it essential to have mod_jk?
Now, i have downloaded the source for Tomcat
3.2.2, and i am unable to build the tomcat.
I am getting the error
Exception in "Main" thread :
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/tools/Main
What may be the problem??
And which version of jetspeed should i use for
receiving the mails.
Please reply fast, as my project deadline is fast
approaching.

bye,
raghu

Redirecting HTTP requests to HTTPS

2003-11-11 Thread Raghu Karamel
Experts,

Need your help!!

I have both the HTTP (port 8080) and HTTPS (Port 8443) working with my Tomcat server
(Version 3.2.. I believe).

So is there any way I can get all the HTTP requests redirected to HTTPS by Tomcat?
Something by tweaking the Tomcat configuration files?

I do not have an Apache server there to serve Tomcat, otherwise I would have used the
mod_rewrite to get that done.

Thanks and your help will be appreciated.

Raghu

Re: Redirecting HTTP requests to HTTPS

2003-11-11 Thread Raghu Karamel
I did that... now I'm getting a message "SSL required to access this
page" when I try to use HTTP. I thought it will automatically get
redirected HTTPS. Am I missing anything? or is that how it supposed to work?

Thanks,
Raghu

How to convert SSL Certificates and Private Keys to Tomcat (JKS) format?

2003-11-19 Thread Raghu Karamel
Hi Experts,

Need your help on figuring out how to do the following.

I have the private key (Generated using OpenSSH) and the certificate signed
by Verisign. Both are in Base-64 encoded format. How can I get both the
private key and certificate imported into Tomcat Keystore?

In other words, what do I need to do to get the verisign certificate working
with my tomcat server? Do I need to just import the certificate or both the
certificate and the private key?

Your help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Raghu

Re: How to "start" a web app?

2004-07-09 Thread Kannan Raghu
Hey Dave,

I have one problem Action Class

i will tell u the clean scenario.. It is related with the session
validation and invalidation in the same page..

1) i am logging into the site and retrieved my trip details...
2) and i started Initial Search with the same user name and
password...coz it maintains my session..
3) i went upto 3 steps... (ex: Review Trip page). there it should
ask only the continue button.. i am getting it. and i logged out from
that session
4) and in the same screen i started my initial search again..
5) when i get into the review trip page it should ask for two
options.. one is login option and another on is continue option..
hence i logged out from the first session..

6) But i am getting only the continue option... when i looked into
application.log file, it is given me the same session id and same
JSessionId...

Please tell me how can i come over this problem

here is the code change i have made to validate and invalidate the session:---

TpSessionState.TPNOTAVAILABLE && !isTPUsed )
{
createSession( request, response, sessionManager );
return;
}

if ( !isTPUsed )
{

}

// Copy the current session ID from cookie for any of the 888 applications
// if this isn't the first time they've validated the session.
// Their session IDs change everytime they go to the 888 home page and
// if we try to validate the new vs. old, it fails.

CLASSPATH and JARs

2000-10-31 Thread Raghu Havaldar

Hi,

Am using Tomcat 3.1.

For a webapp, I have a bunch of JARs. How do I ensure that
it gets picked up in the CLASSPATH ?

Putting them in either the web-inf/lib or web-inf/classes does
not help.

>From the FAQ on Jakarta site, one person recommends adding it to
the system CLASSPATH.

Maybe it is fixed in Tomcat 4.0 m3.

anybody ?

note: Am trying to get Jyve up and running, and it has tons of JARs

RE: jar's still not picked up in WEB-INF/lib

The
Context setup is for the web-app.

I do
not think it is a good idea to put app-depedent
libs
under $TOMCAT/lib.

Just
for experimentation, I tried placing the JARs under
$TOMCAT/lib and $TOMCAT/webapps/web-inf/lib.
Does
not
work.

Tried
with 3.1 and 3.2beta6 on WinNT 4.0.

I would definitely set up a context in server.xml
  like this:

   docBase="webapps/Oasis"  debug="0"
   reloadable="true" >

That should solve you problem.  Otherwise,
just put the .jar files in the D:\Java\jakarta-tomcat\lib
directory.  Then the jars would be available for all applications served
  by tomcat.

Subject: Re: jar's still not picked up
in WEB-INF/lib

I am experiencing the same problem that others
have reported on this topic.  I explicitly set my Tomcat classpath to
be sure of no redundancies in the jars.  I have a Tomcat startup batch
file with one line that adds in all the jars in my WEB-INF\lib to the
classpath explicitly.  When I comment that line out, I get the
classnotfound errors.  When I put it back in, my web app runs
fine.  Obviosly I want the line commented out and have the jars picked
up in the lib dir, but that aint happening.

Because the jars work when explicitly included
in the classpath, I conclude that the jars are not corrupt.  I also
conclude, based on commenting out the explicit lib jars classpath, that
there are not redundant jars in the classpath.  I have also checked
other sources for possible classpath jar redundancies and I am just not
finding any.

I am running under Win2000 using
jdk1.3.

These is the exact dir structure I have set
up:

D:\Java\jakarta-tomcat\webapps
D:\Java\jakarta-tomcat\webapps\Oasis
D:\Java\jakarta-tomcat\webapps\Oasis\jsp
D:\Java\jakarta-tomcat\webapps\Oasis\META-INF
D:\Java\jakarta-tomcat\webapps\Oasis\resources
D:\Java\jakarta-tomcat\webapps\Oasis\WEB-INF
D:\Java\jakarta-tomcat\webapps\Oasis\WEB-INF\classes
D:\Java\jakarta-tomcat\webapps\Oasis\WEB-INF\lib

I have gone through Craig McClanahans list of
things to check and all seems to be as it should.

Any hope for a fix?  Should I continue to
look at my config?  I have heard some people talk about setting up an
explicit context for the app in the server.xml.  Does this solve the
problem consistantly?

TIA,

I
think u misread me a bit.

I
would NOT recommend putting them under $TOMCAT/lib.
However, their right place is (as the doc suggests)
in
$TOMCAT/webapps/APP/web-inf/lib.

I have
not yet looked at load-balancing issues. But, they
are
another beast (for upgrades and such).

Aside from the fact that it does not work
in certain situations, why would you think it is not a good idea to put
your app specific libs under the WEB-INF\lib directory.

The spec says to do it.  It allows for good
application orginization.  What would be your arguments against
  it?

Actually I can think of one argument against it,
and that is that by including your libs in the classpath instead, you can
control the order of the classpath.  It appears that using the libs
directory would allow for random ordering (based on OS directory ordering) of
these libs.  Also, I need to include zip files and these don't get picked
up anyway.  Maybe using the classpath is the way to go.

That's what I thought after reading the docs, but
seemed not to work.

Makes me lookk silly with this whole CLASSPATH

I unpacked a jar file in the WEB-INF classes
directory. It had a servlet and another class
called by the servlet. The servlet could be run
okay, but when the servlet tried to use the other
class, it was not found. Are you saying that if I
leave the classes in the jar and put the jar in
WEB-INF/lib, then the other class will be found
when it is used?
