No reason at all, in fact that's what I do.

In fact in some setups, mod_jk.conf CANNOT be in tomcat's conf dir, 
because tomcat could be on a separate machine.  Since mod_jk.conf is
properly an apache conf file, not a tomcat one, the correct place
imho is in apache's conf dir.
