This may have something to do with the "patched" version of Xalan provided with the API or some incompatibility between versions of Xerces/Xalan supplied with Tomcat 4 and Tomcat 5 . I don't expect anyone to tell me how to fix a proprietary API, when they don't have access to the source but if anyone has any ideas or suggestions for how I should go about debugging this problem please let me know.
