Re: which memory profiling tool is better for tomcat?

2004-03-27 Thread Peter Lin

if you're talking about profiling, I prefer Borland
OptimizeIt. Having done quite a bit of profiling in
the past, I find OptimizeIt easier to use than JProbe.

if you're talking about monitoring tomcat, there's a
new tomcat monitor for JMeter. Just get the nightly
and you should be able to monitor TC5. Note that
tomcat 4 doesn't have the status servlet, so it won't
work with tomcat 4.

Try the Reference Scanner from http://jb2works.com/
- if you want to find memory leaks.
It runs from a browser windwow, also remote.
Tomcat-Howto (Singel app and full tomcat) is there too.
I had used OptimizeIt but was not happy with it,
before i decided to write the Reference Scanner. Read this
FAQ

for more information.

Rational Purify doesn't seem to be as tailored for Web Servers as JProbe, and I've found nothing in Rational Purify's documentation describing how to run a Web Server in non-graphical Linux bur monitor from a Windows machine which I do see that JProbe do. Is Rational Rose a good choice for Tomcat memory analysyst?

2004-03-26 Thread Shapira, Yoav

Hi,
I actually haven't used Purify in a while. I've used JProbe a lot and
like OptimizeIt marginally better, but it's a personal preference only.
There are also a number of free tools:
