Topband: Collins folded monopole
Several people have asked about the antenna I am using on top band The antenna is described in detail in the APRIL 1984 CQ magazine starting on page 20 as WHAT LOOKS LIKE A BIRDCAGE FOR A 2000 POUND CANARY The article is available for download from their archive website http://hamcall.net/cqcgi/?res=lyr=1984mo=04 and is pictured on the cover of October 1981 CQ It is a military surplus antenna that was designed for use on missle sites in the late 1950s ___ UR RST IS ... ... ..9 QSB QSB - hw? Re: Topband: Rx antenna suggestions
Hi Gary I need to do something with my Rx antennae First thing to do is detune or neutralize your TX antenna during RX, a vacuum relay disconnecting the center of the coax maybe enough,. NX4D figured out that it was not enough for his insulated tower, it was necessary a second relay and a detuning wire coming from 18ft as W8JI suggest n his site to detune a tower. The TX antenna is resonant and it dominates any RX antenna reradiation signal and noise. The iteration is severe and you see no improvement on signal noise between the Inverted L and any RX antenna around. Regards Jose Carlos N4IS ___ UR RST IS ... ... ..9 QSB QSB - hw? BK
Re: Topband: T32C and 3D2R
What a difference a day makes. Signals down on the upper bands on both DXpeditions yesterday. What was 599 copy on Sunday afernoon was now S1 on 15, 17, and 20. But MUCH better on 160. Snagged T32C on 3rd call during my grayline to East Coast this morning on 160. Also worked KH2/N2NL on 80. Surprising change from 24 hours ago. Meanwhile, 3D2R coming in on 160 but massive pileup, maybe tomorrow morning. This grayline prop is addictive Mark Lunday WD4ELG ___ UR RST IS ... ... ..9 QSB QSB - hw? BK

Hey - some of us 160 meter challenged individuals are counting success as the ability to even HEAR T32C! Hi Hi... Here I set with a 43 foot vertical, one 160 meter loading coil, five elevated radials (first time I've had this antenna contraption together and on top band) and running QRP power...just to hear these guys is a thrill! Re: Topband: T32C and 3D2R
T32C was quite easy copy here in SW VA just before SR. 3D2R came up out of the mud here just around SR. 73, Joe K2XX On 10/3/2011 10:07 PM, Mark Lunday wrote: Similar observations from US East Coast. I was able to work T32C and 3D2R on 40 CW and 80 CW during my gray-line this morning. Simple inverted L and 300 watts from NC. Excellent ops on their end, I am sure, was a big factor. Pileups were there when I heard them, but nothing like on the higher bands over the weekend. I did hear T32C on 160 but lots of W6/W7 stations with much better antennas and the sun was up by that time. Will keep trying, Mark Lunday WD4ELG ___ UR RST IS ... ... ..9 QSB QSB - hw? Topband: Hearing T32C was a thill!
Just to let y'all know that just hearing T32C this morning was a thrill! Just got my basic 160 antenna up and working - 43 foot vertical, 160 meter loading coil and 5 elevated radials so I'm happy as all get out just to hear them! For those of you who've worked them, good on ya! 72, Jim Rodenkirch, K9JWV ___ UR RST IS ... ... ..9 QSB QSB - hw? BK
Re: Topband: T32C and 3D2R
I worked T32C at 1am EDT last night/this morning (0500z). A simple inverted L with 16 radials 62.5 long. They could hear me a lot better than I could them (me at 1kw) but I answered their CQ. They didn't have many takers. I have yet to hear 3D2R on 160 when spotted. Worked them easily on 80m. tnx Mike / W5JR - near Atlanta GA On Oct 4, 2011, at 11:31 AM, Joe Giacobello, K2XX k...@swva.net wrote: T32C was quite easy copy here in SW VA just before SR. 3D2R came up out of the mud here just around SR. 73, Joe K2XX On 10/3/2011 10:07 PM, Mark Lunday wrote: Similar observations from US East Coast.
