Re: Topband: CQ 160M SSB CONTEST

2013-02-25 Thread Mike Waters
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I don't know exactly how to explain this, but I
listened to the contest a few times and was kind of disappointed. I never
felt compelled to participate and so I didn't.

I didn't hear a single call I recognized. None of the big contest stations
nor anyone on this reflector.

For me the CW contests on 160 are MUCH more fun, though I am not really
that proficient at CW, and I certainly have participated in SSB contests in
the past.

Anyone else feel like I did? Maybe I was just in an off mood. :-)

I do not dream of working ZL on 500

Especially since 500 kHz isn't available to hams in ZL yet.

We do have 1750m, though (130 to 190 KHz), but the maximum power output is
only 5W.

Hi guys!
Most or maybe all of us have been talking about 160 as the low band and that
is correct in a sence IF they are just about to open up 500 kHz on a more
global basis. I do not dream of working ZL on 500 but just want to figure
out how big interest there is at this reflector to run some tests on 500.
Been in touch with Elecraft and they recommend an up/down converter for the
K3 rather than using the KRX3.
If you are interested, please send a note off reflector to me.

2013-02-25 Thread Bill Cromwell
Hi,

I'm hoping a new 600 meter allocation will give some nice regional rag
chew QSOs. My receiver is already working and now looking at designs and
schemes for transmitting a signal when the time comes. I have been
receiving low powered signals from some of the experimental stations at
about 1000 miles distant sometimes. NDBs at 25 watts are good day or
night out to 1200 miles. I won't be disappointed if we cannot work other
hams globally. There are other bands that are good for that.

My first and maybe my last 160m SSB effort. It did motivate me to get a
160 antenna up. I would agree that participation is thin. Worked most
states but no !!! W1's (only weakly heard 2) VE's a few Caribbean,
. Propagation and the central/east coast US QRM and their QRN levels
require a big signal from here (Redmond, WA). I could hear much better
than talk (800w). 161 Q's 11hrs OTA.
