Re: Topband: XW8BM on 160m again
I han'nt contact with Toshi, All info from XW8BM and JA8BMK accounts on QRZ.com XW8BM will start operation on around Jan. 23( Friday) 2015 again on 160m band if I am lucky to get the license. I will operate for about 2 weeks. Hi Eugene I heard Toshi very well last year several days long path SSE/SSW around 11:30z. If you have a chance tell him to set some SSE/SSW RX antennas for NA, Regards JC N4IS -Original Message- From: Topband [mailto:topband-boun...@contesting.com] On Behalf Of Eugene Popov /RA0FF/ Sent: Thursday, January 22, 2015 8:33 PM To: topband@contesting.com Subject: Topband: XW8BM on 160m again Today XW8BM makes a call CQ-NA on 1812 (rx UP2 ) . It was after 22:00 UTC . Earlier, I wrote it down signal in my archive . http://www.qsl.net/ra0ff/160m/ears.html Signal could be heard much better than the last visit to Laos. Re: Topband: EP6T Last Night
I'm pretty sure I made the Q with EP6T tonight. Some ass was keying down with others chiding him on the Tx frequency so it was hard to tell through their BS, sounded like my call coming back. I'll have to see if it shows up in their log to know for sure. There were some folks making the Q though and this was the first night I could hear them on 160, AA1K made it for sure. Not sure why there were so many long pauses between EP6T calling but sometimes it took quite a while. Listening to his signal gave me a chance to tweak the noise blanker in the K3 and cut down on some of the arcing I constantly have thanks to AMTRAK's leaky power lines 100' from my antennas. At least I was able to reduce the noise more than the signal so that's a plus. Hate to go without using the AGC, the lids really overpower the front end that way but it helped to hear him better. Antenna is ready for tomorrow's contest, ought to be a whole lot of fun. Good luck to all who are giving it a go. 73, Gary KA1J --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com _ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband

Re: Topband: Mathey VU-360 delay line
I've used similar delay boxes for experimental RX work. Ordinary toggle switches are used as can be easily seen. These aren't anything great at RF, but should be fine at 1.8 MHz. (It is possible that the switches actually control relays, in which case there is no issue. However, all the boxes I've seen are passive.) It is important for the line to be terminated accurately in its characteristic impedance (in this case 75 ohms) on at least one end. Otherwise, the amplitude will vary with delay. It is non trivial to get this termination because of items such as high-pass BCB reject filters, and low noise preamps, and even just receivers that might not be well matched. Also, antennas such as whips are pure capacitive and will never be matched. It is very difficult to make a preamp with less than 3 dB NF that is matched. (If anyone knows how to do this, let me know). Summarizing: I'm sure the box will work as advertized, but there a application hazards that make keep you from success. Topband: EP6T from Western Europe
Hi Neil, I will follow your guidelines tonight and get up at 02:00 for a couple of hours. This may do the trick. As the CQWW starts tomorrow night, this will probably be the last shot. I doubt they will be around on Monday night and my body will be shot after CQWW even if I do not pull two all nighters. Well life is good and they are giving us all a chance. These guys all made a big sacrifice and all they get is abuse from all continents. Yes the VP8G operator will be sought but I think he is only on 17 and 20. Next year there will be a larger scale expedition to South Georgia and South Sandwich if they can get the funds. Those poor people will be concerned with keeping their fingers warm enough to operate the paddle. Thank you once more for your guidance - it is appreciated. 73 Doug EI2CN _ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband

Topband: EP6T Last Night
I have uploaded a recording of EP6T signal last night at 0254Z. Go to: www.vo1hp.ca DX Clips page The signals peaked suddenly around that time and stayed strong until drop out at their sunrise Receiver Afedri SDR at remote oceanside site connected to Pixel Magnetic Loop. The sugnal was alsosame level on 80-10 OCF dipole at same site. _ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband
Re: Topband: No 160m contest for me this year
You bet they're nasty and strong! I sure hope you're not trying to manhandle those critters by yourself?! Google 'raccoon damage' and click "Images" at the top. Besides showing how destructive they can be to property, there's several photos there of people with their noses either partially or totally ripped off by a raccoon attack.
