Like many of you, I was shocked and surprised, then immediately saddened to
learn of this tragedy earlier today.

I have worked Milt many times over the years from his home or away.

I believe one of the last QSO's was in the December Stew Perry Contest. I
was mobile (parked) in the MINI COOPER, so was quite thrilled to work Milt
from the car.

He was one of my very best Q's to the west (closely tied no doubt with N6TR)
so after the contest I had sent him a thank you email and we got to talking
about

the QSO and also his array. He did all the heavy lifting on his end !

I think he was nearly as excited to work me as I was him, and so I was quite
impressed by his humbleness and got to know him just a little bit in those
few long emails we traded.

RIP Milt. I am sure gonna miss your presence.

N5IA's son posted this on Milt's QRZ.com page:

"Hello to all of Milt's Amatuer contact, friends, acquaintances and others,

"I am Milt's oldest son Jason, some of you know me, most of you probably
don't. I have been with him for 47 years, he was my hero. Today, June 9,
2016. Milt was on was of his many tower climbing adventures, and by no
choice of his, it became his last. It is with great sadness that I report
to all of you that today we lost one of the greatest men I know. He was my
hero. He left behind Rulene, his loving wife of 49 years, 7 children, 30
grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and so many, many friends. His legend
will live on for generations to come. He loved to help others, especially
in his chosen hobby, Amatuer radio. He truly cared about his hobby and took
every aspect of it to heart. Those of you who knew Milt, know how
intelligent he was, and how he loved to share that intelligence with others.
Please feel free to share with anyone who might not read this short post, of
his passing."

Here's the ARRL article:

http://www.arrl.org/news/well-known-dxer-dxpeditioner-milt-jensen-n5ia-dies-in-tower-fall

Partial quote:

"Well-known DXer and DXpeditioner Milt Jensen, N5IA, of Virden, New
Mexico, died on June 10 after falling from an Amateur Radio tower. An
ARRL Life Member, he was 73. According to the Pima County Sheriff’s
Department, Jensen was working on a tower on Arizona’s Mount Lemmon when
he fell. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A Tucson News account
cited a sheriff’s deputy who indicated the fall was accidental, but the
mishap is still under investigation."

I am fairly new to 160 meters, but became almost immediately aware of
the presence of N5IA there. His signal was always outstanding and at
the top from his area of the country. This is a very sad time for his
family and all of us who knew him or heard his FB signals on 160. I
know I will miss his great signals. Such a terrible accident for his
family to comprehend. I also think I am turning in my climbing belt.

Sad news, indeed! I knew Milt fairly well. He was the very definition of a
gentleman! He could often be heard during 160m CW contests as N7GP (a club
call), and he always made time to say HI MIKE when I called him on his run
frequency. He was one of my best customers when I was selling Beverage
antenna control boxes and I spoke to him several times on the telephone.
He and others in the club had quite a superstation.
