Topband: Inverted L successes

2017-08-28 Thread Doug Ellmore
I moved to a sloping Inverted L last fall when I only had 17 countries
confirmed on DXCC.

Initially the base had three 56' ground radials and was fed 40' from my
tower. The diagonally placed vertical sloped up towards the base of my
Navassa5 yagi at 40', then horizontal toward a tree.

I confirmed 70+ countries by December 2016. In January I added 15 radials
about 30' long.

I direct fed the antenna. I had a 7 toroid (31) to provide a choke at the
feed point.

I used QRP to 1500w to work stations and confirmed DXCC in March.

I worked sunrise, sunsets, and various times during the night.

An inverted L no matter what height the vertical section is better than a
dipole. In this case, a little of something is better than a lot of
nothing.

DON'T over think it. Just Do It!

Topband: CQ World Wide 160-Meter CW Contest

2017-01-23 Thread Doug Ellmore
Reminder for this weekend, CW: 2200Z January 27 to 2200Z January 29

Even if your not a contester, it should be a good opportunity to work some
top band.

I'll be hunting for a baker's dozen new ones for my 160m DXCC, as well as,
Montana and Arizona for WAS.

*Rules:* https://www.cq160.com/rules.htm

*Exchange:* RS(T) and state for U.S., province for Canada, and CQ Zone for
DX. Note: Zones are location indicators only and do not count for
multipliers.

*SCORING:* All stations—the final score is the result of the total QSO
points multiplied by the sum of all multipliers (states, VE provinces, DX
countries).
Hope to work you with my Inverted L. I'll be running HP.

Topband: ARRL DX Phone Contest

2016-03-02 Thread Doug Ellmore
Given personal commitments for the weekend, I was considering operating the
ARRL DX contest 160m single band.

Given the recent discussion regarding the CQ 160m contest, I downloaded a
Top Ban World Allocations worksheet at
   http://www.qsl.net/n1eu/topband/

Given, the discussion, it looks like the place to be would be
1.843-1.850 for much of the dx,

1.830 to 2.000 for other DX.

As was discussed previously, makes for a small amount of spectrum for a
single band 160m contest.

But, please look for me. I am starting to operate more on 160m for DXCC.
I will have an Inverted L and likely another TX antenna. I hope to have a
BOG or two and maybe a K9AY deployed again.
