I found the answer to my own question -- thanks to Mark Connelly, WA1ION.
https://www.qsl.net/wa1ion/kaz/phased_kaz.htm

The math according to Connelly is fairly simple:
"The antenna has the form of a delta with the apex spaced above the center of
the horizontal base at a distance of 1/4 to 1/3 the length of the base. Base
height above ground can be as little as 0.3 m / 1 ft., though I find improved
performance at 1.5 m or higher."

So with a 7,5 m height I should make the Kaz delta base length 30 m -- or, say,
26 m if I go for around 1 m above ground.

Topband: Dimensions Super Kaz delta

2020-09-27 Thread Hermod Pedersen
For years I have been planing for putting up a Super Kaz delta loop.
Now the time, it seems, has come.
Only to find that my hardware is not in line with the "normal" dimensions.
Most online sources says the dimensions of a super Kaz should be hight 8,5 m
and length 34 m [in awkward feet, for non-US folks, that would be 28 x 112].
Having checked my building stuff in the barn I can make a wooden pole at 7,5 m
hight [24.6 feet]
Which clearly is a meter or so too short.
So what to do? Should I shorten the length of the delta correspondingly? Does
it really matter?
So, my question is:
Could I just go on making a 24 x 112 feet [7.5 x 34 m] delta?
Or should I shorten the length somewhat??
I know, "just go ahead and do it..."
I read a lot about antenna calculations but don't really undertand how to EZNEC
etc. So any comment on the dimension for a super Kaz dimensions for MW (AM/BCB
band) reception is of interest.

Re: Topband: BOG height

2019-08-01 Thread Hermod Pedersen
That is absolutely so.
I have been using BOG's for years, running them in and out on the neighbor
farmer's field, until a friend of mine told me that I really must raise the
wire.
Having done so during the last winter, with kind permission from the farmer, I
can tell you that Chuck is spot on. Raise the wire above the ground, and It's
totally different. While I use my antennas for MW DXing, it should be the same
for topband DX.
With the BOGs I could, on a nice night, hear some fair long distance stations,
with an elevated wire I now regularly can catch Andean MW stations in my
location, which is Sweden. summer or winter.
