Re: Topband: OT: Studying the ionosphere using RBN
I went to tHel PNW to view this total solar eclipse. Found a place about 1 hour east of Portland, Ore a few miles south of the Columbia River Gorge with low horizons with clear skies, a rare event. At sunrise birds started singing and 10M opened to the east coast. As the eclipse started to occur causing sunset (it was maybed out 8:30 to 9:00 AM PST, the birds stopped singing, the 10M opening to the eASeAST COAST WENT AWAY Arne N7KA _ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband
Topband: 160M A35T
Last night was a pleasant surprise. I started off by working IF9ZWA at 0549. His signal came up out nowhere quickly. I reached over to turn on 3 minutes of agony (tube warm-up) and decided to call him barefoot. A quick QSO resulted (he was S7) then I realized I had the K3 power set to drive my amp. The QSO was made with 55W. He peaked a few minutes later at S9 on the K3 meter. Definite SR enhancement About 0715 I hear stations calling someone thinking it might be A35T. Finally about 0735 I begin to hear very weak CW on 1821.5 and finally worked them at 0745Z. The amp was in play, it had remained on. TX/RX ant is 1/4wl sloper. Here in the USA, I keep a bottle of TARN-X on hand. It works well on copper and silver and is also listed for gold and platinum. Available in local markets in the kitchen cleaning supplies. Rinse after cleaning to remove residual. Arne N7KA _ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband

Re: Topband: phasing line lengths for phased verticals
This looks like the Engineering Phasing report mentioned. I have an older version, this one seems to be reformatted. Re: Topband: LOTW Responses
Same thing probably happened to many of us. I can say it was a very pleasant surprise to get credits for QSOs going back 25-30 or more years ago. A big thanks to those folks who entered that old log info into LOTW. IMHO, just that surprise was well worth the effort and the low cost of my using LOTW. Imagine if all of those old DX logs were entered into LOTW. Arne N7KA - Original Message - I am lucky (?) with a condo antenna and QRP on 160m there is not much of a demand for my QSL :-( But interesting to note that I received an LOTW confirmation for a contact made back in 1982. jim / W1FMR ___ ___ UR RST IS ... ... ..9 QSB QSB - hw? Re: Topband: Elephant Cage Antennas
If one visits Oahu the opportunity to see another one does exist (probably easier to talk the XYL into a trip to HAWAII). I did some work with the US Army on Oahu a few years back and did see the installation from a distance. Its located in the NE corner of grid BL01xm, or -158.01135W, 21.52228N. I used this map site to get the location info: http://f6fvy.free.fr/qthLocator/fullScreen.php Arne N7KA - Original Message - I would love to have one of the giant DF antennas! Wow! Makes a Four Square (or even a W0UN-style Nine Circle) array look anemic. The James Bamford book on NSA "Body of Secrets" has many references to Elephant Cage rx arrays. Here's a great picture of ANFLR-9 array: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ANFLR-9_antenna_array.jpg The associated Wikipedia entry is interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN/FLR-9 Bill ___ UR RST IS ... ... ..9 QSB QSB - hw?
