Re: Topband: 160M Conditions

2023-01-28 Thread Roger Stein
Shucks Pete, that’s propagation for you. I snared 37 DXC in last nights session
from here in Nova Scotia with my K2AV FCP and SAL-20 or new SGA, (Shared Ground
Array) beta version from Mark. Running just 600 watts. Many, many, did I say
many? US stations could not hear the EU DX and plopped on top of them calling
CQ. They must not hear either side of the QSO.

And…it still doesn’t do calling stations any good plopping dead zero beat along
with the horde, the runner cannot separate you, so we tune off freq to catch
the copyable call signs.

That ever happen to you Pete??? Oh well end of rant.

See you tonight and may the Propagation be with you!

Topband: 01:35 to 02:07 utc band opening

2021-05-05 Thread Roger Stein
Good day gentlemen, just happened to catch a short window of Nova Scotia to EU
opening tonight. G4ROO, G4ITR, OK1CF, DL8LAS and OZ7YY. That was from 01:38 to
01:55. By 02:07 everyone was gone with Andy the last signal seen on the display!
The station on this end was a SunSDR2 Pro, Palstar LA-1K at 700 watts to a K2AV
FCP and the SAL-20 on RX. Signals peaked to S9 with rapid QSB.
There are times you just have to be in the chair to catch the opening!

Thanks for putting up the spots John N1PGA, that’s what alerted me to the
possibility!

Re: Topband: Good Conditions, Little Activity

2020-10-09 Thread Roger Stein
Fun on TopBand last night from Halifax, NS.
I was able to put John SM5EDX, Al LY7M, and Stasys LY1G Into the log before
retiring for the evening. Many thanks to Guy, K2AV, for his Inverted L FCP
design that I use as my TX antenna.
Prior to getting on 160, Kevan N4XL did a Zoom presentation on 160 vertical
antenna techniques thanks to coordination by Larry Anderson NN5O and the Deep
Dixie Contest Club. The presentation was recorded and will be available via
YouTube.
