Actually it is NOT ham radio!!
Can you handle emergency traffic??
Can you have a conversation??
Do you really get a feeling of accomplishment
working an ATNO??  Etc, etc.

Have you spent any time with the mode?

For example,

1. Have you identified a country you need for a bond slot or ATNO?

2. Have you determined the best time of year, time of day, and band to see if a
station from that country is on?

3. Have you searched the decodes daily for a station from that country?

4. After spending days hunting that DX, have you FINALLY managed to be there
when the propagation was favorable?

5. Have you then, after all that, called that DX and made the contact?

If that does not qualify as ham radio, I’m not sure what does.

Hello Topbanders,

I have an inverted "L" with 4 elevated radials!
I seem to have too much ground losses!
I am wondering if I can add an 160 FCP to help with the ground losses??
Any info would be much appreciated!

Hi Joe et al,
That's my point!!  You can have a conversation on CW, SSB, and even RTTY!! That
is a big part of Ham Radio for lots of us!
FT8, etc, takes the personal satisfaction part of HAM radio away!
It's just like a Computer game!!
I for one, will never try FT whatever...

apathetic and never get on the air.

But yes, the best way to promote the more traditional modes is to get on the
air with them and communicate our love for them with others. I like CW best
because, for me, it's the most fun. But the other modes are also fun. And fun
is where YOU find it.

Whoa!
That matrix of Clublog contacts made by mode really does make it pretty clear
to me.
Probably the best thing we can all do to deal with this is to get on CW and SSB
as often as we may desire to - to keep the traditional modes alive in the
traditional band segments.
Tks Wes for adding to this conversation.
