Re: Topband: 7P8 last night

2019-03-16 Thread Gary Smith
I did not make the log but they were
booming in here last night, their SR. My
160 came down 8-10 days ago and my spud
launcher was broken & I wasn't able to get
it repaired & the wire back up till
yesterday evening, so I only had the one
shot at them. But they were coming in a
true S8 on the K3s & HI-Z circle 8.

Next time!

Re: Topband: 7P8 last night

2019-03-15 Thread Roger D Johnson

I worked them at 0402Z for number 300 on Top Band! Yea! I was beginning
to get worried!

The evening was notable in that I saw three different propagation modes
here in SW Maine.

The first, beginning at about my sunset, 7P was weak and fading in and
out of the noise. Not hearing any NA (note at end).

The second, closer to his SR, signal became very much stronger but sounded
very "choppy" making copy difficult. Again no NA worked.

The third, near his SR, The choppiness disappeared and he was armchair
copy 569/579. It was at this time that I worked him. He went on to work
several NA stations.

Note: Herb, KV4FZ, worked him during the first phase. Herb said he was
579 in VI but not workable just north in W4 land! I believe Herb was the
first NA in the log.

showing their end posting time. . but this morning found my call is

The half dozen of us in central Illinois did not fare so well. Rain
throughout the area made it difficult to hear, but we were glad they
were on during our opening. At one point the wind was louder than the
amplifier fan! There was a bit of a peak, with fading towards their
sunrise. I don’t believe anyone got through, so we will be on again
this evening.

We are looking for a shot at XR0ZRC, 3B8XF, and 5X3C. It’s good to
have some nice DX to chase.

Then less than maybe a dozen or so did make it right up to and past
