Re: Topband: AutoEZ
Thanks, ...for saving me the trouble of ever downloading AutoEZ. 73, Bill KU8H On 09/21/2013 11:47 AM, Richard (Rick) Karlquist wrote: AutoEZ only supports exactly Microsoft Excel with the latest service pack. Topband: AutoEZ v2 with Optimizer
AutoEZ is an Excel application that lets you automate the use of EZNEC. Version 2 is now available. Major changes are 1) an optimizer, 2) new Create dialog windows to easily build common antenna configurations, and 3) faster calculation speeds. The AutoEZ home page with revised documentation is here: http://ac6la.com/autoez.html For a complete list of all changes since v1 see: http://ac6la.com/aenewforv2.html A free demo version of AutoEZ is available for download. The demo includes the optimizer feature. Dan, AC6LA _ Topband Reflector
Re: Topband: AutoEZ v2 with Optimizer
Thanks for sharing, Dan! I've used EZNEC a LOT over the years, and I've done a lot of useful work with it, but I was unaware of AutoEZ. I'll look into it and maybe investigate the paid version as well. Thanks, and have a good day! 73, Charlie, K4OTV -Original Message- From: Topband [mailto:topband-boun...@contesting.com] On Behalf Of Dan Maguire Sent: Friday, September 20, 2013 4:48 AM To: topband@contesting.com Subject: Topband: AutoEZ v2 with Optimizer AutoEZ is an Excel application that lets you automate the use of EZNEC. Topband: AutoEZ
I've had the privilege to beta test the latest version of AutoEZ with the optimizer. It's really a neat piece of software for antenna modeling. 73, Rudy N6LF _ Topband Reflector

The lack of current sources is sufficient to rule out 4nec2 for me. There are many other deficiencies in 4nec2. It really makes EZNEC look good. Rick N6RK _ Topband Reflector
Re: Topband: AutoEZ
Richard, 4NEC2 does current sources. It also supports NEC4 and has good graphics. What other deficiencies are you missing? Years ago, I tried both EZ and 4NEC2. I stayed with 4NEC2. Re: Topband: AutoEZ
Slightly off topic: The stumbling block with AutoEZ is that you have to have a copy of Microsoft Excel, and it has to be exactly that, not a clone like Open Office or Libre. I am currently using my office computer at work for AutoEZ because the IT dept installed Microsoft Office on it without asking me. I would like to get AutoEZ going on my home machines. In trying to buy Excel, I find that I must pay about as much as a complete version of Office, because standalone Excel is about the same price. AutoEZ supports old versions of Excel back to 97, but similarly, I find that I can cannot find an old version for much less than the latest version. In some cases, the older versions cost MORE than the latest one, which BTW will not run on my XP laptop. Furthermore, I find that much of what is for sale is installable on only one machine, and can never be moved to a new machine, so I get to buy it again when I get a new laptop. This is the product key version. The boxed version is hard to find and expensive. I have absolutely no use for any aspect of Office other than to run AutoEZ, so whatever I buy is effectively added onto the price of AutoEZ for me. Can anyone point me to an economical solution to this dilemma? I suspect many others would also be interested. With the latest version of AutoEZ this becomes more urgent. Rick N6RK _ Topband Reflector
