Topband: Band conditions
There was a very short opening from UK to ZL this morning at sunrise - the first since Christmas Day. Richard G3OQT _ Searchable Archives: http://www.contesting.com/_topband - Topband Reflector

Yes, 160 at last seemed to be working for the first time this season. Three of us here were getting hits on NA RBNs from 2100z onwards when there must have been broad daylight at the other end. Conditions were equally good this morning around our sunrise at 0730 but there was zero NA activity. Richard G3OQT _ Searchable Archives: http://www.contesting.com/_topband - Topband Reflector

Well Conditions were good last week . . . On one evening I worked about 30 North American stations on CW, including across to Texas, Colorado, etc. Rick I was on last night around 0100Z and again about 0300Z. I did work Dave VE6WZ in Alberta, however, I could see from NA RBN Reports that propagation was poor . . . however a station in Oregon logged me at 45 dB above the noise a couple of times ! If I wake during the night I try and come on around the top of the hour, and put out a few CQ DX calls . . . but if propagation seems poor I go back to bed after ten minutes ! 73 Roger G3YRO _ Searchable Archives: http://www.contesting.com/_topband - Topband Reflector

I took this as everyone is chomping at the bit to get outside and work on antennas. I know I am... :) Fred KB4QZH Original message From: Jim Brown Date: 1/5/21 5:26 AM (GMT-05:00) To: 'TopBand' Subject: Topband: Band Conditions With all the posts here in the last few days one might draw the conclusion that band conditions are really terrible!73, Jim K9YC_Searchable Archives: http://www.contesting.com/_topband - Topband Reflector _ Searchable Archives: http://www.contesting.com/_topband - Topband Reflector

Re: Topband: Band Conditions
Hello Topbanders, Good conditions tonight towards EU from C6AGU, Bahamas, FL14uv. The band is certainly alive and well. The location is very quiet here. Using the TX ANT for RX worked 200+ EU this evening using 400 W (Wed, Nov 20/21). Signals were generally good, with what seemed to be strong QSB. However, it was not the signals that were up and down. Rather, it was the noise that was fluctuating up and down by as much 10 to 15 dB. Signals that were good copy when the noise was low would completely disappear when the noise level rose. The QTH is on an uninhabited island, with the nearest civilization about 5 miles away, and even that is very minimal. The nearest city is Nassau, about 100 miles away. Florida is 280 miles to the west. I don't think the noise was man-made, or at least not local. The dominant period between noise peaks and troughs was between 3 and 6 seconds. There seemed to be no rhythm to it, just a seemingly random up and down. Has anyone experienced this king of noise?
