Put in 4 hours this year. QRN and lack of DX plus a sore back made cndx less than exciting here in Ohio.
Came on a few times Fri night but QRN was moderately heavy ( S5-7) masking the DX I was hoping for, so went to bed early. Sat night I saw multiple spots for EU early, but the few I could hear didnt hear me ( around my SS.) Later at night near 0300-0500z had some success into southern EU ( couple of 9A's, CT3, GU, 5B, IG9, and then V3, KP2, KP4, PJ2, P4) US was pretty good, working 38 states and 4 provinces. Saw spots for KL7, KH6, multiple JA's - but heard nothing thru the noise. Even at my SR Sunday morning the QRN was - if anything - heavier than during the evening hours. Sounded like cndx were about average or slightly below, but the QRN masked many sigs. Those guys in Cyprus have been showing up well here during recent contests, at times one of the few Euros coming through. My Station: 1/4 wave INV-L w/ 26 radials and 52 ft vertical leg. SAL30 rx antenna. IC7610/ACOM 1000 amp. N1MM+ logging software. Oh, and 82 y.o. ears. -----------------------------------------From: topband-requ...@contesting.com To: topband@contesting.com Cc: Sent: Sunday January 28 2024 12:00:22PM Subject: Topband Digest, Vol 253, Issue 28 Send Topband mailing list submissions to topband@contesting.com To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/topband /> or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to topband-requ...@contesting.com You can reach the person managing the list at topband-ow...@contesting.com When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of Topband digest..." Conditions are still rather poor, as DX signals were well down on normal. However, managed to work about 20 NA stations. (best DX was Florida) Will come on again tonight to see if I can hear any more through the local noise and EU QRM. 73 Roger G3YRO ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Sat, 27 Jan 2024 19:19:58 +0100 From: Andree Schanko To: topband@contesting.com, Roger Kennedy Subject: Re: Topband: 160m CW Contest Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" ------------------------------ Message: 3 Date: Sat, 27 Jan 2024 18:25:51 +0000 (UTC) From: Andree DL8LAS To: "topband@contesting.com" Subject: Topband: CONDX CQWW DR5X Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Hey topbanders, during first night CQWW 160m I worked 110 stations NA , also west coast .Condx were not bad here in DL.Hope to work more DX tonight. 73 Andy DL8LAS / DR5X www.dl8las.com ------------------------------ Message: 4 Date: Sat, 27 Jan 2024 19:13:09 +0000 (UTC) From: "cqtestk...@aol.com" To: "topband@contesting.com" , Andree DL8LAS Subject: Re: Topband: CONDX CQWW V31XX Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Was on and off for a few hours.? I am a 6 Meter operator and that is where I spend my most of my time. I got on 160 Meters this morning to try for TX5S. But my main 160 antenna is down. I loaded up the rain gutter on our home, added a 40 foot extension wire over to a short cherry tree for a "low inverted L." Running about 50 watts. The SWR was low, but probably high ground loss. After a couple of calls ? TX5S worked on FT8 "F & H" around 0845z on 1.836 MHz! The CQ 160M contest was taking place. I then switched to a TS-850 (my favorite CW radio) and worked a few contestants. Best DX was VE7ZO in BC. After the contest I was curious if I had any psk flags? Had two in Japan, of all things. The A index today is only 6. Eventually will get a real antenna back on 160M. Used to have a ? vertical. 73 ? Did work a few CA yesterday. However, in the midst of the evening, my 160 antenna developed fluctuating SWR so I had to stop.
