Even though my QTH is about 50 miles from Boring, my reports can still be boring? This morning - I got on the radio around 7 AM local (1500Z) and quickly worked Vlad, RA4LW, who I also worked last night. During the next hour - 8 more Europeans made it into the log. This is the first time I have heard this morning opening to EU in perhaps 8 years. It's an indication to me that we are moving into the best time to be on topband - for perhaps the next 2 or 3 years. My TX antenna was best for RX as I don't have too many beverages up yet (just one going East). Many stations were worked using "QSB protocol" with short transmissions. 73 Tree N6TR/7 Manning, Oregon _ Searchable Archives: http://www.contesting.com/_topband - Topband Reflector
Re: Topband: Not so Boring report
I used to work EU on 6-10M crossband in those days since very few had authorization. Ireland was one that did and quite a few were on. My rig was a HB 6AG7, 6V6, 829B crystal controlled with PP 6L6 modulators into an ARRL HB 4 el yagi just above the 3el HB 10M which was above a HB 15M at about 20' high. 6BQ7, 6J6 converter to a 20M IF was also HB. On 10M it was a Viking I, HQ-129X. I lived out on LI, NY back then, in Nassau County. Fun days about 8 years before I met Stu Perry when I was at National and he convinced me to try 160 after Id moved to 8 acres in NH. Until a few nights ago - I still hadn't worked any Europoeans this season. That changed on Wednesday night when I got 4 Europeans in the log. I would have had another one on Thursday night - but my TX antenna had developed a water short in the control cable and was beaming south when I thought I was TXing to the north. Missed RA4LW. However, Vlad heard me on Friday morning when I figured out the problem and called him using my E/W direction. This morning, I worked OH3XR about an hour before sunrise. It's very unusual to work the morning opening during a sunspot maximum - but we'll keep trying and see how it pans out over the next couple of weeks. 73 Tree N6TR/7 Boring, OR ___ Topband reflector - topband@contesting.com ___ Topband reflector - topband@contesting.com ___ Topband reflector - topband@contesting.com

Tree, We are at a sunspot maximum? 10M sure as heck didn't get the memo. There was a whole bunch more DX on 160 last nite than on 10 today! And that's fine by me!
