Re: Topband: VU2 on top band
As far as I know hams in VU are bound by Indian Wireless Telegraph (Amateur Service) Amendment Rules, 2009 dated 1 April 2010 and Indian Wireless Telegraph (Amateur Service) Amendment Rules, 2005 dated 9 June 2005. As per the above rules and subsequent guidelines and clarification memorandum No. L-14011/255/2004-AMT dated 13 Aug 2010 from Ministry of Telecommunications, the frequency allocation for the top band is 1820khz to 1860khz on shared basis. The new allocation plan (1800kHz-1825kHz) they say is just a plan paper within the ministry which is not notified in the Gazette of India by the Government so far. So the rule is 1820kHz to 1860kHz until an amendment comes. That's what I know about it and I haven't come across an amendment so far. Topband: VU2 on top band
I have worked VU on top band just before their rules changed and they were not allowed to use freq around 1840, today I worked VU2 on top band again and he was on 1840. I wonder if any one knows if the rules have changed again and they are allowed to use those freqs. One thing I notice "that" mode is good for is watching for peaks and nulls in received signals, I hear a lot of folks saying they are not seeing sunrise and sunset peaks, I see them as I have for the past 50 plus years of operating top band. I watched today as the VU2 went from -20 at 1634Z to -13 at 1650Z, my sunrise is 1646Z, so there was a definite peak at my sunrise as there normally is. I also have a peak about an hour before sunrise normally, Sunset is the same, signals peak at sunset and again an hour after. I was hoping to catch 5H3 on top band for one of the two last zones for WAZ from this QTH. But heard or saw nothing of him. I think I have a shot if he would hang around until my sunrise. But not to be. 73 Merv K9FD Molokai Island Hawaii. _ Searchable Archives: http://www.contesting.com/_topband - Topband Reflector
