Hi folks

Unfortunately, there are more and more collectors on this list than
lovers of 160m.

http://www.arrl.org/system/dxcc/view/DXCC-160M-20230109-USLetter.pdf

I, for example, am interested in another (live) process - the indicators
of daily work with DX.

For example, today I have CFM LotW 880 different callsigns from the U.S.
from AA1K - and to WZ8P

Unfortunately, I can't lead a full life now (and not just on the
radio)...

QSL's confirmed solely LoTW aren't checked by any person. For example,
MM0ZBH QSO with WB6CTL is now QSL'd in LoTW for DXCC purposes as a 160
meter QSO at 2130Z.

There are, unfortunately, some inconsiderate hams who won't use LOTW.
Thankfully, fewer as time goes by. When we were kids, the "final
courtesy of a QSO" was a QSL, and postage was 2-3 cents. Now it's LOTW.

I'm chasing the FFMA award on 6M, and currently have about a dozen cards
from rare grids to be checked, in addition to 5-6 cards for DXCC. That's
three years worth. The storms caused me to cancel an end-of-year
appointment with our card-checker, about 50 miles up the coast.

What size a rhombic would be "large" on 160 m?
Perhaps long enough for far end to be close to the other station.

All of this is an example of why ARRL card checkers must have achieved
DXCC on topband before they can check topband cards.

Re: Topband: spot

2023-01-09 Thread Tree
I used to live near Granada Hills - not near an ocean.

I guess he could have a remote station somewhere - but again, 1:30 PM in
SoCal is a no go. I can't imagine where someone would have a big rhombic
near an ocean in SoCal with much of an advantage towards Europe.

Reminds me of a story - back when W6RW was active on the band. This is
probably around 1975 or so. The Southern California DX Club used to have
quite a bit of activity on 2 meter FM - perhaps a repeater, I forget.

Someone started bootlegging European calls around noon local time and W6RW
was buying it. He had a lot of fun talking about this rare opening at
noon. I think eventually, he was convinced someone was pulling his chain
and he stopped.

Worked them with one call, only running 200

a threepeat be possible with PQ0T?

This has been another great DXPedition.

Also worked 6Y2T and HC1PF in the DX contest
