 The bug you want is https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1443823
 (see my comment 8). The patch in the bug you are linking to is just
 concerned with the 32bit cross-compilation, which is not the problem we
 are facing in this ticket: only when cross-compiling for 64bit Windows are
 we hitting the STL wrapper related compiler error.

 uh... are you sure you were actually cross compiling? right now cross-
 compiling tor rust for *anything* is probably broken, because it doesn't
 pass the CHOST in as the target.

 the cleanest way to do this AFAICT is:

 if CBUILD != CHOST, set `build.target = @CHOST@` in
 src/rust/.cargo/config, and set tor rust path to
 `src/rust/target/@CHOST@/release/@tor_rust_static_name@`. as far as I can
 tell, cargo does produce a `lib` file on Windows, and this is the correct
 extension for us.

 else, do not set build.target (`build.target = ''` causes an error), set
 tor rust path to `src/rust/target/release/@tor_rust_static_name@` (the
 same as it is now).

 you can see this at https://cgit.alxu.ca/tor.git/tree/src/rust?h=meson in
 `{,.cargo/,tor_rust/}meson.build`, `.cargo/config.in`, and
 `tor_rust/build.sh`. meson doesn't provide a target triple, so I ask the
 user to provide it. for autoconf, we would just use `@CHOST@`.

 In those two, I add DELIVERED and OVERHEAD. DELIVERED is the same as
 before (sum of RELAY_COMMAND_DATA rh.length fields). OVERHEAD is the sum
 of the extra unused space in RELAY_COMMAND_DATA fields.

 The idea is that the original READ and WRITTEN fields can be used to count
 all of the cell data sent on the circuit. Then you can add
 DELIVERED+OVERHEAD, and subtract that from the original CIRC_BW fields and
 get the count of bytes consumed due to all non-application cells. This
 should be an approximation of the dropped cell data on the circuit (not
 counting legit non-application data like SENDME cells, HS state machine
 cells).

 The plan is to use this to set limits in the vanguards script on the ratio
 of RELAY_COMMAND_DATA to other stuff on the circuit.

 Ok I forgot that rh.length will be 0 or small for many relay commands. So
 we're not able to get a dropped data count with the PACKAGED stat as-is. I
 might just remove that and only have DELIVERED, unless I can think of
 something clever.

 Ideally the values reported here would allow us to differentiate between
 excess data on the circuit due to cells being valid but not full vs excess
 data due to dropped cells.

 This ticket includes four related tasks:

 a) redesign current about:tor
 b) think about critical messages eg. "Update Tor Browser"
 c) onboarding for new users
 d) onboarding for new features

 All this components or flows are living or are triggered at about:tor
 page. This is why we are thinking about them right now. On my last
 delivery, I included a narrative and low-res mocks for onboarding new
 users. Also, during our meeting, we talked about having a walkthrough like
 onboarding for new features.

 So, I'm including now

 a) **About:tor** > We talked a lot about to have a dark theme here. Having
 a purple background reminds users of safe private browsing mode in regular
 browsers which is a feeling that we want to recall here.

 b) **Critical Messages** > We have a separate task for the browser update
 flow, but I'm just introducing it here. I'm going to work deeply on it at
 their respective ticket.

 c) **Onboarding New Users** > The F60-like onboarding for new users will
 be triggered for first-time users. Also will be persistent at the left top
 icon. Content is not defined yet, but I opened a pad to work with the
 comms team on it https://pad.riseup.net/p/about-tor-copy

 d) **Onboarding for New Features** > Based on Firefox's UX
 [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/59.0.2/tracking-protection/start/].

 This flow must be used for onboarding new features. The walkthrough style
 allows us to drive the user through each feature per time and also to show
 them in their context.

 I put some more thoughts into this:
  1. We started out with providing the CSV files linked from
 [https://metrics.torproject.org/stats.html stats.html]. These are quite
 detailed, which is great for researchers, but also somewhat difficult to
 handle for less technical users.
  2. We now provide 1 CSV file per graph that is generated ad-hoc to
 contain just the data that is displayed in the graph. These files are
 likely more usable for non-technical users, but as we see here they lack
 details for researchers.
  3. How about we find a middle ground? We could provide 1 CSV file per
 graph and contain all data that could possibly be displayed in that graph.
 Basically, it would be the same link as in 2., but there wouldn't be any
 parameters. That's still less data than in 1. but more data than in 2. We
 would likely have to add a legend to the CSV file header to explain the
 columns, but we're planning to do that anyway (#25446).

 Nick says that this would be very involved, because there is no such thing
 as stream events for *any* "exit-side" connections (and service side onion
 service connections count as exit side). Plus #25903 is a better solution
 anyway.

 I am de-parenting this and taking it off of the 034 roadmap. It could also
 be closed as "not a bug". I don't really need this feature any more, and I
 don't think anyone else has ever requested it.

 I want to have information about how much data is actually for
 applications, so that external controllers can check for circuit side
 channel attacks.

 To do this, I want to add two fields to CIRC_BW events: a PACKAGED field
 that reports the sum of all rh.length values for all relay cells, and a
 DELIVERED field that reports the sum of all rh.length for *valid*
 RELAY_DATA cells.

 That way, controllers can check for large differences between PACKAGED and
 DELIVERED, to see if lots of data is being sent on a circuit that is
 getting silently dropped. They can also check for differences between the
 raw CIRC_BW value and DELIVERED, to see if an adversary is underfilling
 cells (though this may be far more prone to false positives).

 Customer support says that they've scheduled the activation of SNI for

 We discussed this on IRC.

 The consensus between arma, hiro, and weasel appears to be that it's best
 that the video be included in the webwml repo for now.

 This keeps the website self-contained, amongst others for mirroring and
 cdn-fronting purposes, and it keeps the entire website under SCM.

 On SIGHUP, we move the hs state between service objects.

 Because `hs_service_new()` allocates the replaycache by default, we
 overwrite it within `move_hs_state()`:

 {{{
   dst->replay_cache_rend_cookie = src->replay_cache_rend_cookie;
 }}}

 We have to free the `dst` cache before.

 failure modes was that the system would start it before the system had set
 up its IP addresses (especially true with the world of ipv6), or before
 the system had set up its network interfaces, and if it just gave up right
 then, the system Tor would stay down. So retrying some times, especially
 at first boot, used to make sense.

 I am in no way a systemd expert either, but usually adding theses 2 lines
 in the service file ensures the network is ready when the service starts:

 The goal of a modern init system is precisely to handle this cases
 properly and remove the burden of having to manually do retry loops.

 Hmm, we are supposed to do this in `self.is_targetted =
 self.is_targetted_func()` when we instantiate a new guard node... Logic
 seems solid, but code might be broken. Will look more into this.

 Hmm, I just pushed a commit that should improve the situation here. Now
 the CDFs look more close to what they should be. But there are probably
 more bugs!

 Still haven't done this one yet!
