 CentOS 6, with firefox-60.1.0-6.el6.centos.x86_64

 After extending the LD_LIBRARY_PATH of tor-browser to include the
 libraries bundled with the FF package in CentOS, tor-browser **does start
 and seems to work properly**.

 tor-browser_en-US/Browser/firefox, prepend LD_LIBRARY_PATH with the path
 where CentOS FF has its library bundle. On a 64bit System, this is:

 LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/lib64/firefox/bundled/lib64/:$basedir/TorBrowser/Tor/"

 So tor-browser should include a similar bundle of required resources.

 browser (as it seems) which makes requests that might cause a potential
 harmful action on user privacy. TBB handle that very well so need a built-

 IRC its better to be used with hexchat and gajim for jabber and tbb for
 any website. using ThunderBird not really recommended as there is no
 hardened version for its features.

 Clicking on `Top Relays` [0] it says `Top Relays by Consensus Weight`

 then the column that is shown is `Advertised Bandwidth`.
 Is it actually top relays by advertised bandwidth?.

 Would be easy to add a consensus weight column?

 Is it total number shown down left regarding the relays displayed or the
 total regarding the query?

 In a relay view [1], consensus weight does not have units, but dir-spec
 says it's in KB [2]. Would be useful to add the unit there?.
 Is it took into account that consensus weight values are published in KB
 (not KiB, not B)?

 Since there are several bandwidth terms and they can be confusing, it
 might be useful to add a link to the spec in the definition?, or add where
 it comes from?.

 Maybe that should be also done for `advertised bandwidth` and `consesus
 weight`?

 I think you have a bunch of misconceptions here. The circuit display was
 not bookmarable in the previous version. It depended as well on the
 particular tab that was focused, just that the information was behind the
 onion button which is pretty confusing as that button on the toolbar is
 not site-specific while the circuit display is. That's why it moved into
 the URL bar.

 8.0 (based on Mozilla Firefox 60.2.0esr) (32-bit) under Windows 10 64-bit.

 The new version of Tor is not running when the browser is launched. This
 results in proxy connections being refused, and being forced to run
 without a proxy.  Needless to say, this is a severe breach of security and
 needs immediate attention.

 When trying to import bookmarks from firefox to tor browser the tor
 browser crashes. You just get the ring of death and the tor browser has to
 be restarted. Using Tor version 8.0 64 bit version

 If it is added but disabled by default it would not harm "normal" users
 and made it easy for all who happen to want it. There should be a big
 warning "With this plugin you endanger your anonymity. You should only use
 it to increase browsing performance by blocking trackers and ads." with a
 link to an article about fingerprinting (that probably needs to be written
 first).

 This bug seems to be back as of v8.0.

 Example:

 1. Visit https://clicknupload.org/hg5f8qew62hm

 2. Create Download Link - Will create a link to something like
 https://fs21.clicknupload.net/files/0/-hash-/test.txt

 3. Tor circuit to "fs21.clicknupload.net" will be different than
 "clicknupload.org" and download will fail because our IP is not the same.

 I will try with v7.5.6 next, but I remember that this worked with the
 release I had before.

 I like to disable the autocompletion/suggestion features of the Firefox
 urlbar by setting
 browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled
 to false.
 In the new TorBrowser version this breaks the urlbar.
 Typing an address and pressing return does not work anymore.
 Actually the ui hangs for 2 seconds, but nothing happens.

 TorBrowser Version on Linux:
 8.0 (based on Mozilla Firefox 60.2.0esr) (64-bit)

 Clarification:
 When I start TorBrowser with browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled==True and
 set it to "False",
 the urlbar breaks. Once I restart the TorBrowser the urlbar works again as
 expected and the setting is correct (False).
 When I change the setting to True and to False back again, the urlbar is
 again broken.
 Until the next restart.

 The same behavior with Tor Browser 7.5.6 (64-bit Linux).

 The behavior does not occur with Tor Browser 6.0.3 (64-bit Linux).
 (I don't have an intermediate version tar because of the autoupdate and I
 can't find another version on the torproject pages.)

 The behavior does not occur with Vanilla Firefox 61.0.1 (64-bit Linux).

 I always used the TorBrowser's autoupdate, that adopts the configuration,
 therefore I don't know when this started.

 Since a restart fixes the problem, it is not that dramatic.

 - privacy.resistFingerprinting deals with privacy issues which are
 relevant only when javascript is enabled

 This would give those who want to trade a bit of anonymity and security
 for a better browsing experience the option while not affecting those who
 want the highest/safest level of anonymity security.

 Also, this would not silently change the user-agent on update of those who
 have already moved the slider to "Safest", which is what prompted my

 This is very precise reasoning, everyone who has a minimal knowledge on
 the Tor Browser's history and philosophy will come to these same
 conclusions. The comment above does note presuppose the security slider's
 function (the tb devs collect all the bugs that affected a Firefox ESR to
 determine which things to restrict in each slider level). Also what if
 someone uses a website foo.com with the lowest slider value then changes
 it to the highest, does he deserve to have his UA leaked then changed
 back? What kind of treatment is that?

 I recently surfed to https://panopticlick.eff.org/ and looked out for my
 Tor Browser Bundle fingerprint.

 I'm using TBB on my 64-bit Linux machine, so the result was '''Mozilla/5.0
 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0''' instead of
 some kind of "faked" fingerprint that shows that my machine would be a
 Microsoft Windows computer.

 I ran the same test in the previous version of TBB that I had before the
 update procedure gave me the 8.0 version, I didn't had the bug that my
 original browser fingerprint was leaked to the server I was connecting to.

 I downloaded TBB 8.0 also as a fresh instance from torproject.org with
 ''the same'' result.

 This breaks anonymity because a web server knows your real system &
 architecture. I don't know if this is only the case for the Linux variant
 of the browser because I don't have access to Mac OS or Windows machines
 right now. I furthermore only tested the 64 bit variant.

 I hope that this is not one of the new "features" that were included in
 version 8.0 ...

 Well yeah, but 'anonymity can be used for bad' was always true, but the
 account existed anyway. It was useable until extremely recently, and the
 project managed to survive for years until what was possibly a single
 spammer noticed they could trivially solve the ExpressionCaptcha.

 The restrictions that are still in place right now? Is there a plan to
 lift any of them at all to try the new captcha?

 It looks like cypherpunks can't even edit trac wiki pages, which is an
 even more recently added restriction. Let alone reply to or file trac
 tickets.

 Why were there no trac tickets filed for making these changes that were
 judged necessary to fix the vandal problem, anyway? It's not even clear
 when the changes happened, and there was no explanation for why they
 happened anywhere but on the mailing list, well after they had been done,
 and only in reply to someone asking about undoing them. (Meanwhile the
 more recent wiki restriction has no explanation at all anywhere.)

 It would be great to show the log in the network dialogue directly when
 tor repeatedly fails to start. sample from #tor:

 system, or faulty hardware. Until you restart Tor, the Tor Browser will

 This one seems like a good candidate for waiting until the new dev website
 is up and ready.

 But that said, building the content so it's ready to swap in to the new
 website could also be a fine plan.

 And also telling the folks building the new dev website about how we want

 I had in mind a language-neutral type of url which would look at what is
 configured in the browser and give you the best available language.

 The current ones, like https://support.torproject.org/tbb/tbb-2/, are
 actually perfect for this language-neutral url. That way the user can
 either explicitly ask for a language by using a url with the language in
 it, or leave it up to our webserver by omitting it.

 For comparison, see how Tor website urls like
 https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy do the language
 negotiation automatically (or you can explicitly ask for the english one
 by appending .html.en to it). That approach leaves all the work to
 Apache's language negotiation, which is great because then mirrors (if
 they run apache) can auto-do it too.

 We probably would want to serve the right language automatically, not to
 do any redirects. Updating the ticket to reflect that.

 Also, I know translations is a topic that many people have opinions about,
 and especially about the user-side experience for them. So if you -- the
 one doing this ticket -- have a better way to let the user's browser
 negotiate a language with the webserver, that sounds good to me too.
