Actually, it's even not in the alpha yet, thus no issue for 8.5.

Before I forget again...we should start looking at Mozilla's Android
Components project. It will be the basis (build-your-own-browser) for
fennec's replacement and we should catch any design problems sooner rather
than later. There's already a browser-like app using Android Components,
they're calling it the Reference Browser.

The only part of this I already looked into (very briefly) last month was
the network stack. It looks like there are [https://github.com/mozilla-
 mobile/android-components/tree/master/components/lib two implementation]
of the `fetch` component, and they both rely on the Android Java core
network library (one uses okhttp, the other uses httpurlconnection). If we
use this, I think we'll want another option that only uses Necko.

Also, it's mostly written in Kotlin. Yay.

 According to https://tor.stackexchange.com/questions/84/how-do-i-create-a
 -launcher-script-that-opens-an-url-in-torbrowser-from-the-bu there's been
a script running around to allow us to open torbrowser tabs from the
commandline...but that was over 5 years ago now, with no sign of whether
or not there's a flaw in that approach.

 Currently attempts to run

 torbrowser-launcher URL

 result in

"Tor Browser is already running, but is not responding. To open a new
window, you must first close the existing Tor Browser process, or restart
 your system."

What should happen is the URL should open in a new tab. This allows for
 scripted opening of multiple tabs.

(I looked for an existing ticket for this but couldn't find one)

 Replying to [comment:22 akwizgran]:

 > TOPL's OnionProxyManager was originally based on Briar's TorPlugin.
Changes on the Briar side since the code was forked include support for
bridges with pluggable transports, so if you're planning to make similar
changes to TOPL it might make sense to check out the current version of
 TorPlugin:
 >
This would replace most of the code in OnionProxyManager,
OnionProxyContext and TorInstaller. Getting connection status is much
cleaner. The OnionProxyContext would then just be used for getting
 settings and tor config information.

 I think there are 3 primary questions/issues:

 1) We need to override the EventHandler methods so we can send Android
broadcasts on events but the AndroidTorPlugin class is package-private.
Does the framework expect/allow plugins from the
org.briarproject.bramble.plugin.tor package? If this is allowed I could
just have OnionProxyManager as a subclass of AndroidTorPlugin without a
lot of modification to the rest of the code.

 2) We need to broadcast event messages and states (like starting and
stopping) to the UI component in Android. Currently I have an
EventBroadcaster class that OnionProxyManager uses to broadcast events and
states during the startup. I see that TorPlugin throws a PluginException
on failures within the startup. I think this would be workable since I can
just capture these exceptions external to TorPlugin and then broadcast.
However, some of the thrown PluginExceptions do not have any message
passed in. So to be usable, I'd at least need those messages.

 3) EVENTS are not configurable. This is one of the issues I logged with
 TOPL.
 https://github.com/thaliproject/Tor_Onion_Proxy_Library/issues/51

Overall, it looks good. Thanks for pointing this out.

Comment (by Crissy):

These glitches was not wisible if hardware acceleration disabled, but
without acceleration the performance is very bad.

First time I have glitches after updating Tor Browser based on Firefox
 52.x to 60.x.
 The reinstallation solved this problem.

Second - today. Also disabled acceleration helped. Looks like any library
for hardware acceleration not changed or wrongly configured after update
process. I enabled hardware acceleration, deleted Tor and TorBrowser and
then installed TorBrowser. It helped. But it means: update process is
 defective.

 > How did you toggle that?

 > This patch looks good to me. You confirmed this issue also works in
vanilla Firefox right? We should probably open up a issue on bugzilla and
 see about getting this uplifted.
The behavior is present in vanilla Firefox, though it might be considered
"working as intended" since in vanilla Firefox you probably wouldn't be
expected to set the file cache size to 0 like we do.

There is indeed a comment in the source that points towards this behavior
being known: "The cache can also be overflowing because the
 media.cache_size preference was reduced." (https://hg.mozilla.org/releases
 /mozilla-

esr60/file/256453759958ed9c2eb17a0764d2fcfd7f8e3323/dom/media/MediaCache.cpp#l1162)

This patch doesn't change the underlying behavior of the file backed
cache, so the odd loading behavior would still be encountered if you
forced the Tor Browser out of private browsing.

It might still be worth pushing this patch upstream though, since in my
eyes it makes sense to never write to disk in private browsing mode, even
 in vanilla Firefox.

So, I have been fighting today with building the whole Firefox related
part (including `fxc2`) without the old mingw-w64/gcc-based toolchain.
`fxc2` does not want and I don't know why yet. It fails to run with things
 like

I'm going to close this because OpenWebRTC is no longer maintained.

I would be looking at #28942 (pion WebRTC) as an alternative instead.

 Using Mac, version 10.12.6

After updating to the newest version of Tor Browser and used it for about
an hour, Tor Browser suddenly unlogged my user mid-session. After
relogging to my user most programs seems to function fine, except for Tor
Browser which reports an error , asking to close Tor Browser with the
following line: "A copy of Tor Browser is already open. Only one copy of
Tor Browser can be open at a time."

I have checked and made sure there was no open window of Tor, and have
also deleted and reinstalled Tor just for good measure, though it did not
solve the problem. I have seen many reports before encountering a similar
problem on Firefox using Tor, but as I was using directly from the browser
I do not think my situation is directly applicable. Thank you for reading
this report, I look forward to hearing a response soon.

Okay, let's try finding out something with a debug build. I created one
based on ESR 60.5.0 with accessibility support:

 https://people.torproject.org/~gk/testbuilds/torbrowser-install-win64-tbb-
 nightly_en-US_27503_6050.exe
 https://people.torproject.org/~gk/testbuilds/torbrowser-install-win64-tbb-
 nightly_en-US_27503_6050.exe.asc

Could someone affected by this bug run it and attach the log output here
reproducing the issue in comment:13? I hope we see some assertions in it
that might give us a hint at what is going on and where to look closer.

Note: you might need to start Tor Browser several times until it finally
starts up: once due to a crash on first start and the second time due to a
bug in network status parsing on Windows which stalls the Tor startup.

Comment:

Seems like a duplicate of #13353. Does it work for you if you uncheck the
private browsing mode on `about:preferences#privacy`, restart Tor Browser
and then import the certificate? (I believe activating private browsing
mode again afterwards should not interfere with your imported certificate,
i.e. you need to leave that mode only for importing the certificate for
 now).

because we need a compiler or a linker patch). That's currently not the
 case.
