Comment:

Duplicate of #29028. We've tested the fix a bit in our alpha series. It
seems it works as expected, thus we either backport the preference
flipping for the next stable or you'll get it by us releasing Tor Browser
 8.5 (whatever comes first).

Is this something Tor Browser, or the startup script, can do automatically
for the user? It seems bad to leave this trap lying around for users,
especially if we don't know what fraction of users are hitting the problem
(and abandoning Tor Browser because of it).

Comment (by Thorin):

 > We think this means "half pixels on a macOS Retina or other high
 resolution display."

See [1], you need to scroll up and down for a tiny bit. Tests records up
to 100 scrollX values - as it gets a value, it checks if it is an integer
 - if it is, it continues, if not, then it stops the test. Last value is
display and logic for sub-pixel detection (yes/no)

On my ancient Android 6, I get half pixels. If I zoom it and refresh I get
13 decimal places. I don't have a Mac or retina display.

I suggest we file an issue for Tor Uplift to round sub-pixels to an
 integer when RFP = true

 [1] https://thorin-oakenpants.github.io/testing/
 - Note: if the test vanishes from here, it's because I made it a one liner
 and moved it to

When navigating to a site (for example a login form), I start filling in

 Can we maybe just set
 privacy.resistFingerprinting.autoDeclineNoUserInputCanvasPrompts to true?

There's many threads on forums, reddit & stack exchange of users being
 annoyed by the popup.

Thanks, this works for me. I'll unparent the ticket. Not sure if you want
to keep it open for having a less ad hoc way of dealing with this problem
implemented on the server-/repository-side. (Assuming that's the place
where we want to make sure the escaping is properly done).

We'd like to test each major chutney feature on each network (or each
feature on at least one network).

To make this testing easier, we should have a script that tests each major
feature. It should accept a network argument, and default to a network
that covers most of tor's features.

We might also want to allow extra arguments to test-network.sh to be
 passed through to the script.

Comment:

Agreed, fixing by adding redirects on the website is a good first
 solution.

Ultimately, once we have permanent homes for the content in the future, we
will want to also update the tor-exit-notice.html file so it can simply
point to the right places. I guess that depends what choice we pick for
 each file though.

(I think a redirect should work even for the src= link for the image,
right? Shouldn't browsers just follow the redirect?)

Travis appears to be under heavy load right now, so we're getting about
one bootstrap failure per pull request:
 https://travis-ci.org/torproject/chutney/jobs/517006783
 https://travis-ci.org/torproject/chutney/jobs/516995533

There's two ways to fix this issue:
 1. allow 120 seconds for bootstrap
 2. make the network run with 10 second consensus intervals

 Option 1 is easy.
Option 2 might lead to some instability, but it's worth trying.

We should probably fix each group of scripts in a subticket.

 We can't run `test-network --coverage` in chutney's CI, because we don't
 have any precompiled coverage binaries.

But we might not want to test it in Tor's CI, because we want unit test
coverage for Tor. (And not unit test + chutney or chutney-only coverage.)

New description:

the recent website update causes 404 in the tor-exit-notice.html file

 https://gitweb.torproject.org/tor.git/plain/contrib/operator-tools/tor-
 exit-notice.html

the fix is easy: just add 2019. at the beginning of the domain.

You might also want to enable some redirections on the current website
since this html file is widely deployed by exit operators.

--

Comment:

The correct way to fix this issue is to fix the tor website.

We need website redirects for all the resources in:
 https://gitweb.torproject.org/tor.git/plain/contrib/operator-tools/tor-
 exit-notice.html

Let us know if there are any resources that you can't redirect on the
website, and we'll fix them in Tor.

The 'tools/bootstrap-network.sh' script doesn't actually use its program
argument (the network flavour). This means that the incorrect network is
 started.

 The line:

 `export CHUTNEY_NETWORK="$CHUTNEY_PATH/networks/$NETWORK_FLAVOUR"`

 should be:

 `export CHUTNEY_NETWORK="$CHUTNEY_PATH/networks/$flavour"`

Comment (by nusenu):

I noticed boklm added more redirect rules
 (a771aead680a9d06f7c26b6f26411c25934d2870).

Some redirect to different destinations than the 2019.www... host

and the src= url for the picture probably can not be solved with a
 redirect.

Comment (by Sebastian):

Is the main suggestion really the right way to fix it? I think adding the
redirect would be the right thing to do. Should this be in some other
 component?

I have fixed the permissions in /etc/puppet/modules/ssl/files again.
Please don't take them away from puppet, else everything will be sad

Comment (by n8fr8):

Below are all the binaries I package in the tor-android-binary
distribution... In truth, I think there are not any more plain "arm" aka
"arm5" devices out there we need to support, so I can probably just build
 for armv7 as the low-end.

Also, I am not actually compiling tor for 64-bit yet, but I just package
the 32-bit binaries as 64 since the shared library management system
expects them to be there. These are still being executed in a separate
process, so there is no issue with them being 32 bit.
