I'm able to see my bridges fine. There may be something strange going on with your bridge though that triggers another code path that my bridges don't. If you could let me know the hashed fingerprint I can better debug this. Also, please check your torrc for a PublishServerDescriptor line and check that you haven't disabled the publishing of the descriptor to the bridge authority, which is where the data comes from. If you're running a private bridge, you cannot view this on Relay Search. In the case of Atlas/Relay Search, we are consolidating codebases into something more maintainable, with less code duplication and general duplication of effort. By integrating Relay Search into the Tor Metrics website, we will also move towards a more seamless UX and making it easier to discover related data, the sources of the data and any analysis that might be useful. On the surface it may look that all that's changed is the theme and the name, but a lot is going on underneath too. They're not the best graphs and I might look into better ways of generating them at some point in the future. For now I'm going to call it "better than it was before" and be happy. For the most part this is fixed as all the style decisions have already been made. If there's a particular area where changes are needed then they can be addressed, for example I changed to a smaller font size for the results table. I'd like to keep these changes to a minimum however to focus on functional improvements, such as the recent addition of Exit Addresses to the relay details pages. [tor-relays] Atlas is now Relay Search!
Hi All, You may notice that Atlas has a new look, and is no longer called Atlas. For now no URLs have changed but this is part of work to merge this tool into the Tor Metrics website. The style is determined by the Tor Metrics Style, and modifications have been made to fit this. The decision was made to deploy these changes before the actual integration into metrics.torproject.org to allow for other issues to be worked on. This was a big change and it was tricky maintaining two branches of the codebase. Issues should still be reported on the Metrics/Atlas component in the Tor trac if they arise. When we come to full integration, URLs will change but there will be a period where we maintain redirects to prevent any URLs from breaking while waiting for being updated. It does seem that all paths used by tor are relative to DataDirectory, which has usually been /var/lib/tor. Perhaps a new configuration option for CacheDirectory, and moving caches to that directory, would be useful. It would be up to packagers to actually use that option though, a default of using DataDirectory as CacheDirectory would not be entirely unreasonable for cases where tor is embedded in other software. This would seem worthy of a trac ticket if someone could write one up. While the search strategy is something to consider, I've hacked up a simple tool for building circuits and detecting, at a very high level, when it fails. I don't yet have the reason for the failure being captured. To give an idea, failures are not uncommon but it is far more likely that the connections will succeed. I ran a trial with random selection to build two hop circuits. The most interesting thing I've discovered so far is that it's common for the connections to fail in one direction but then succeed when the two relays are reversed. I can't be sure if this is because I can't reach one of the relays. I would love to be able to add an "unreachable relays" box to Atlas to let operators see which relays they can't reach. I'll have a think about this. I can't promise immediate progress on this, but I'll file a trac ticket shortly and hopefully progress can be made soon. This will include the "Not Recommended" flag, and will also later include an IPv6 flag and a "Currently Running" flag to distinguish relays that are actually running from those that were last seen to have the Running flag when they were running but currently aren't. Those graphs for which data will never be present (3 days and 1 week traffic) no longer attempt to be drawn on Atlas since this morning. Indeed. The data is still present for the shorter-term graphs, though at a lower resolution. If you would like higher resolution data for your relays, you could take a look at: https://www.atagar.com/arm/ > To avoid misreading and confusion there should be no blank chars shown on > Atlas when there is nothing available to fill them with data. There was originally code to detect when data is missing, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. I will need to dig into that futher. Thanks for raising this issue and hopefully the fix can be reviewed and deployed shortly. Not the most performance enhanced page on the web but: https://metrics.torproject.org/bubbles.html This bubble graph shows where relays are located by autonomous system. If you're looking to set up new relays, attempting to grow smaller bubbles here (the names should be googleable enough) or trying to add new ones would definitely be preferred over adding more to OVH. It's great that OVH are Tor-friendly, but diversity of the network is important. [tor-relays] Usability Improvements for Atlas (was Re: Globe is now retired)
Hi All, On 29/06/16 09:56, Karsten Loesing wrote: > tl;dr: Globe is now retired in favor of an improved Atlas. Atlas is improved, but I'd like to improve it further. I've been tackling #6787 looking to improve the homepage and make Atlas easier to use for someone that isn't already a Tor expert. The changes I'm proposing in my fix for #6787 [1] do make some noticeable UI changes and I just want to gather some opinions on whether or not Atlas users feel that this is taking it in the right direction. The "Top 10 Relays" page was added to Atlas in order to make sure that functionality was not lost when shutting down globe. (See #5430 [2]) In my proposed patch, I'm also adding an "Authorities" page and adding text to both of these pages to explain what you're seeing. These are linked from the homepage, and from the top navbar. I'm also moving the introduction and explanation of the Atlas features from the About page to the homepage and introducing a new Help page that explains the details that are found in the relay details pages. You can find a live example of this patch at: https://irl.github.io/atlas/#/ and a full list of changes are detailed in #6787. Please let me know if you can see any reason to not merge this, or if you have any suggestions for small changes before merging. Thanks, Iain.
