I tried reporting a similar issue a few months ago (post wasn’t approved by
moderator). I was running a relay from my home ISP. After a short while
certain websites became inaccessible from other computers in my home network
that shared the same public IP. After trial and error with other IP addresses
(non-Tor) I realized commercial gateway services had blacklisted our IP
address.

Same here, middle node. In order to access some sites, I have to shut down
briefly my modem in order to obtain a new IP, and for a while all goes smoothly
again.

"No space left on device". Looks like your disk is full. Free up some space, if
you can delete some stuff, or get a larger disk. Probably you can delete older
logs that are piling up in /var/log/. Set up a log rotation.

[tor-relays] Is my node dropping packets?

2021-07-29 Thread Marco Predicatori
Hi, my Tor node is inside a local network protected by a firewall. Only port
9001
is NATted towards the Tor server.
Moreover, I have iptables active on the Tor server itself. The outer firewall
blocks any incoming packet except for packets on port 9001 and returning packets
from established connections.

My iptables blocks several packets which were allowed through by the outer
firewall,
where I assume they are recognized as returning packets from established
connections. Then my local iptables drops them. I can't understand why.

You can find here an extract from my Tor node "iptables -L -n" and a typical
day's log of dropped packets on the Tor node:
https://easyupload.io/m/48if5l

Many packets coming from other Tor nodes where dropped. The Tor log doesn't
mention
any problem. What may be wrong?

Solved. Every minute a crontab job checks wether the public ip has changed. If

[tor-relays] Nodes on dynamic IPs don't survive an IP change any more

2021-06-10 Thread Marco Predicatori
Hi,

whenever my IP changes, my node stops relaying traffic, and after a few hours I
see in the logs
[notice] Heartbeat: It seems like we are not in the cached consensus.

In past versions I remember seeing in the logs something like "...your ip seems
to have changed...", followed by a new "...publishing server descriptor...", as
far as I remember.

Now I have to monitor my ip, and restart Tor whenever it changes. Wouldn't it be
nice to go back to the previous behaviour?

I need dynamic dns because this particular node is hosted at my home dsl

[tor-relays] Tor 0.4.5.6 and missing IPv6

2021-03-09 Thread Marco Predicatori
Hi,

I've recently upgraded to Tor 0.4.5.6. Everything seems to work fine, but in the
notices_log file I have a lot of these lines:

[notice] Unable to find IPv6 address for ORPort 9001. You might want to specify
IPv6Only to it or set an explicit address or set Address.

I don't have IPv6, and any line mentioning IPv6 in the torrc file is commented.
Is there anythng I need to do in order to get rid of those notices, or can I
just let them be?

Thanks, Marco

All my support to you, for what it's worth. If you are running a Tor

can afford some police "pressure" every once in a while, instead of
people who would risk much worst.

I didn't realize that Tor was against the police, or vice-versa, at
least in decent countries like yours or mine, so far. I don't think
it's a good idea to make it sound like it is, or we will have a hard
time to explain that Tor is meant for decent people, and just
incidentally used by pedophiles, druglords et similia. I wouldn't
mind government entities from, say, Switzerland or Sweden, to put up
huge lots of exit nodes. But I'm of course dreaming.

Bye, Marco

Of course, but what would they make of it? They might have 200
perfectly legitimate Tor nodes already, making a blacklist
absolutely useless.

That would be his problem, just like anybody who loses control of
his hardware by theft or loss. It wouldn't have anything to do with Tor.

Yes, I was experienced the same issues with Skype.
Skype blocks connect's from tor network.

Same situation here.
