Re: [tor-relays] Tor Weather getting T-shirt email. Problem

2013-12-30 Thread I

I donated to Tor a few times because I couldn't use Linux, a VPS, or get past the port problems from home. Donations of cash are far better than using volunteers to send a partly profitable t-shirt.After the threshold of my first relay (an exit on a Windows VPS) Tor weather promised a t-shirt which seemed a fair trade.  Learning and restarting after daily stoppages of the VPS took much time.  The t-shirt was to be symbolic of commitment to Tor ideals in a small way.  Donations of time and VPS hire to expand the network are better than cash donations to Tor, I feel. Now after numerous relays and exits, copyright threats and pleadings, and many hours and $ a t-shirt or mug would mean the commitment to the ideals was recognised.Tor Weather hasn't registered it but it should have to ensure encouragement to broaden the network.[IMO] The t-shirt or whatever should be a good design such as Jacob wore at 30c3 rather than the the current one.Robert

I agree with that point, because currently, relay operators have the
incentive to not update to the latest Tor version whenever a new
version is released, in order to keep the consecutive uptime high.
That is probably not in the best interest of Tor.

Maybe Tor Weather could look at the flags instead of the consecutive
uptime instead. For example, you typically don't lose your Guard or
Stable flag due to a reboot.

I agree there should be another way. I just recently had to start

I updated Tor. I don't plan on updating again until two months have

I think two months is a bit short to be rewarded with a t-shirt from donated
resources.

It makes more sense to extend the time but include the total time running
ignoring minor disruptions.

didn't see your relay matching the uptime requirement,
