Hi,

* fastmail.fm was recommended by Wikileaks.
* secure-mail.biz (free version without SMTP support, premium version
full featured)
* VFEmail needs a temporary mail address for account creation.
* riseup.net a service for activists.
* Vekja.net offers anonymous e-mail accounts for 100 Bitcoins per month.

...and more.

Greetings,
Karsten N.

I guess Fastmail it is. Although they are hosted in New York so are subject to
US laws. Don't understand why Wikileaks would recommend them.

[tor-talk] Mail service working with Tor

2011-05-29 Thread force44
I use myself https://funky-mail.net
Free to receive mails, must pay a small fee for sending mails but there are
great features (scheduled mails, any "from", mailings). Payment through
e-currency, so good for keeping a low profile.
(I have no connection at all with them, just this can be useful as I can
connect thru TOR without problem).

Disabling logrotate for the time being and observing the
results in the consensus would sure be appreciated. If you
keep dropping from the consensus after logrotate stops
HUPing tor, something else is up.

Thanks

[tor-talk] drops from the consensus

2011-05-29 Thread Olaf Selke
Hi,

the last three weeks I noticed blutmagie as well as torserver.net
routers sporadically being dropped from the consensus. The routers have
perfect uptimes and IP connectivity doesn't seem to be a problem.

Any idea what's going wrong with the consensus?

Yes, actually.

See recent comments on
https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/ticket/1810

An upcoming 0.2.2.x and 0.2.3.x release will include this changelog entry:

  o Major bugfixes:
- Don't decide to make a new descriptor when receiving a HUP signal.
This bug has caused a lot of relays to disappear from the consensus
  periodically. Fixes the most common case of triggering bug 1810;
  bugfix on 0.2.2.7-alpha.

At least, I hope that's the issue. :)

indeed, blutmagie appears to lose its traffic every Sunday
after the weekly log rotation.

"A" URL, or any / many URLs?

If many, make sure settings in Polipo are correct - & Polipo is
running. Also, if using Firefox, d/l latest Torbutton alpha ver from
Tor Project site. It will set the Tor proxy settings correctly in FX.

If using IE... don't. Seriously, you can configure IE to work, but
using Firefox is safer. Or, just d/ l the Tor Browser bundle, w/ pre
config'd Firefox included.

Can install it to a separate folder than other Fx installs. to be able
to run a 2nd instance of Fx, create a separate profile for the Tor
Browser. Then in Properties of desktop icon, in the Target box, after
the executable file, add the profile name & no remote command:
\firefox.exe" -p fx-shrd-7-22-10 -no-remote

I don't have a facebook acct, so not positive. Often, pages won't let
you log into acct if your Tor exit node is coming from a diff country
than one you signed up with.

Some have success by using the ExitNodes command in Vidalia torrc file &
using the same country code as when acct was created. If want to be
sure it only uses exit node from the country specified, use the
StrictExitNodes 1 command after the ExitNodes. See the "manual" link on
Tor projects documentation page.

The manual is not really clear about what a country code is or where to
find yours. I searched the internet for Country Codes and found a list
somewhere, but I do not recall right now where that list was. In any
case, the strict exit nodes solution solved a similar problem for me.
