This is some kind of bug in TorBrowser/TorButton/Firefox. It will actually
just download (using your existing Firefox-Tor connection) and save the file
when you click "launch application".

If you then launch an application to view the saved file, of course that
application is not necessarily guaranteed to be using Tor for any internet
access, unless you are running something like Tails.

Did you happen to see which webserver you were connected to for the
download?

We have 5 webservers for www.torproject.org using DNS round-robin spread
across Europe, Iceland, and the USA. Maybe you get one on the wrong
continent from you.

[tor-talk] Need instruction how to manually install obfsproxy bridge support on Windows?

2013-02-15 Thread Moses
Hi,

I tried set up an Tor Expert Bundle with Obfsproxy bridge support on
Windows. I downloaded "Windows Obfsproxy Tor Browser Bundle" and
extracted "App" folder under my Tor folder. Then, I added line

ClientTransportPlugin obfs2 exec d:\tor\App\obfsproxy.exe --managed
bridge obfs2 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:x

to the ''torrc'' file. However, this does not working.

I searched the website but it seems the only instruction about how to
manually install Obfsproxy is in Linux platform:
So if anyone could update the page about how to do it in Windows, it
would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The link to the mirrors is listed in the footer of *every* page.

Aha, tanks.
They are not mentioned on the Tor Browser Bundle page :
https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en

That page just says "Download Tor Browser Bundle" and list links for
the main site.

Try one of the mirrors listed here:

[tor-talk] TBB download mirror or p2p?

2013-02-15 Thread David Balažic
Hi!

The TBB download

is quite slow, getting about 100KB/s (much faster line...).

Is this a temporarily (over)load of the server?

Otherwise, did you consider solutions like mirrors (ancient technology
;) ) or p2p distribution (bittorrent or other) ?

[tor-talk] 'external application is needed'

2013-02-15 Thread Mersenne Tee
When you download something say for example tor and you get the pop up message
"external application is needed to handle" etc etc if you click the 'launch
application' button does that mean you may lose tor protection and thus
downloading with tor isn't safe?
