Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Wireless (wi-fi) Strength
The internal antenna is soldered directly to the board. Its facing the back of the device, so for the best signal strength you need the back of the Touch pointing towards the router. The front of the Touch has the touch screen itself which has a solid metal back and the power planes inside PC board in front of the antenna. So I could easily see a very low signal strength if the front of the Touch is pointed towards the router. Now I have to say that I have used my touch WITH the front pointing towards the router and had it work just fine over WiFi through several walls. There is a set of pads on the board for soldering in an external connector, but I don't think the current boards are shipped with the connector. It looks like a standard UFL connector. So you could buy a UFL connector ($1-$2) solder it to the board and plug in a UFL to RSMA pigtail for connecting an external antenna. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Can't power off after update.
This is an on going issue the developers are working on. The underlying issue is that the Touch does not have a working Real Time Clock (RTC) so when it boots without being connected to a server it has a random time. In order to prevent a clock from showing up with the wrong date and time the clock screensaver is not allowed to show up if the Touch has never connected to an external server (which sets the time). They are working on exactly how this is put into practice so it won't show a clock but will show a non clock screensaver. So for a little bit their might be some strange behavior in nightly builds as this gets worked out. [SlimDevices: Touch] flexible swing arm bracket for touch
i have a strange location for listening to my touch and thats on or in my bed with my trusty grado headphones.(i have kids and thats the only time i can get to listen in peace). To make this perfect i would love to be able to mount a flexible bracket to the wall right beside my bed which i could use to hold the touch. That way i could bend it up, down or extend it so it is in just the right position for me to view. At the moment i am physically having to hold it to operate it. Been looking on the net without much luck but need some search suggestions or links if anyone has any. PS: i dont expect to find a bracket that is designed to hold the touch properly its more the flexible arm/extender i need. I can figure out a way to secure the touch even if its a a ugly rubber strap or tape or whatever. thanks -- thmpi thmpi's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38683 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79632 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Can't power off after update.
When I set my SBT up last night, the first thing the unit did was update to the latest firmware. When I pushed the power button on the remote control it effectively went into standby and the clock showed up - as I had set. Today is another day... now it's going into standby. When on the Now Playing screen you can visibly see the work 'Off' in the top left corner but it remains on the Now Playing screen. I've checked the settings and it should still be going to the Clock. The delay is set to 10 seconds. I don't understand why it would stop the action. What I've done since last night is add more music to my hard disk and reconnect via USB. My SBT is standalone with USB attached hard drive. -- NeonFrog NeonFrog's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38425 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79548 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

my touch also had a dead/stuck pixel. i never noticed it from across the room so i never complained about it. however, i recently went on vacation to a cabin in the smokies and brought my touch with me. i put it back in it's original box and when i got to the cabin, the front plastic screen had some kinda junk on it that i couldn't clean off. still have no idea what it was. i called logitech squeezebox support and they emailed me a shipping label and offered to replace the touch under warranty after i provided proof of purchase. so, now i'm sitting here waiting for my new touch to arrive. i suppose if they replaced my touch for some gunk on the outside, they'd likely replace yours for a stuck pixel. give them a call and see. squeezebox support number is 877-887-8889. -- kgturner kgturner's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8214 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79605 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Wireless (wi-fi) Strength
I'm DEFINITELY trying to connect to the correct wireless network :) No amount of spinning the router around is making any difference. As I said in my original post; I placed the SBT within 3 feet from the wireless router (no obstacles inbetween). I'm not really going to use the internet through it. But that's not the point. I need to prove whether this is a faulty product. I guess what I could do is take it to a friend's and see if it connects via their wireless easily and monitor the signal strength. Is there possibility of a connection issue? I need to get the username/password from my flatmate to check the settings. I know I had problems connecting my netbook using linux. Once I'd installed Windows 7 there were no problems connecting! This is where I get stuck though. I really don't have any knowledge in setting up static ip's or such. I read posts on forums but it's jargon to me. I think I'll start by taking it to a friend's place and see what happens with connecting there first before reporting back here. Thanks all for replying. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Wireless (wi-fi) Strength
For reasons I can't begin to fathom, from the SB3 onwards first SlimDevices & then Logitech decided that the provision of an external aerial was unnecessary. They could at least include an SMA connector even if the aerial itself was an extra. It would save an awful lot of consumers having to resort to the inconvenience of hard wiring or the expense of Homeplugs. :( Due to the lack of an aerial on the Touch, you're going to have to do all you can at the router end. This can include as GaryM said, moving the router, changing the position of it's aerial(s), trying different channels or maybe even installing third party firmware. -- rbz5416 rbz5416's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12089 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79607 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Hi guys Just set up my new SBT lastnight for the first time. Plugged it in and could see my wireless network but symbol was greyed out and it would not connect - I was approximately 3 metres away from my wireless router - that's 9.5 feet! After repeated attempts I placed the SBT 3 feet from my wireless router and it connected, updated to the latest firmware and did it's thing! Yay! I am concerned though. When the SBT is no more than 3 feet away from the router, you'd expect to see a much better wireless strength than 38% right?! I've checked online for any issues connecting to a D-Link router but no-one has raised any challenges. I'm now thinking I've possibly got a faulty wireless module... ... Any idea's?
