You can always use those ports for pictures and slide shows. Touch's
server need not be running for such Image Viewer tasks.

Yup. In fact, your SBS server is now setup. Just connect Touch to your
network, point Touch to your server, you are done. Assuming you plan on

Other option is to just plug the USB drive into the Touch, no computer
needed, but there are limitations in not using the full SBS server.

I'm getting a Vortexbox Appliance to use with the SB. I plan on
hardwiring everything as a dedicated music server, digital out to my
Denon AVR, for FLAC files. I am not really interested in streaming to
other areas of my home, but who knows. Downloading SB play and Server
is my way off learning about SB. My first question now that I can
navigate the SB player is how would I play 2 Beatle Albums at once out
of the full catalogue? With iTunes I would hold down the control key
and clic on the albums I would want to play.

Oh, they'll breed, trust me. You can't have just one.
And if you don't keep adding more then a big ugly guy wearing a SONOS
t-shirt will show up at your door and smash your hi-fi gear. ;)

On the actual Touch you would simply touch hold the album, a pop up
screen appears, Add to End (of Playlist) is offered, repeat for next
album.
How you accomplish this on the software players I dunno.

2010-11-30 Thread Mr_Sukebe

I understand where you chaps are coming from.
I haven't experienced that many issues with TinySBS, but also feel that
my Touch sounds better when it's got an external server providing the
data, so have also gone back to that method.
Whilst it is dissapointing that TinySBS is a bit second rate, look on
the bright side, as a digital transport the Touch really is very very
good. I've owned a modded Meridian 500 CD transport and believe that
the Touch is better, and that's before I added a good linear PSU, which
has moved the Touch on even further.

Further, how can I make a software-reset through this connection if

(Remember- the reset button will not work)

I opened the SBT and broke in my hurry a piece of the ambitient light

will effect any subroutins of the software

Problem #1: At least in Canada, the site STILL says In stock for
Touch when you add it to your cart, even though it's not and is
backordered.

Problem #2: If I view my order through the wrong link, it shows the
whole thing in US dollars, even though the order was submitted in

This says nothing about their products, but I wouldn't use their site

[SlimDevices: Touch] USB drive as a server - keeps dropping connection

2010-11-30 Thread daytripper

Hi there

I was referred here by someone on the logitech boards and was wondering
if you could help me.

I am running a Squeezebox system (Touch, Radio, Boom) in my flat. The
server is a USB hard-drive att to the Touch. It has maybe 30gb of music
on it. Trouble is, it keeps failing.

I am frequently - several times per hour - having to go to the Touch
and restart the server. I can't figure out why, and when I restart,
everything is fine for a while. Seems to happen a lot when I switch
radio channels, but can also happen with music, or at just about any
time.

FYI I control the system with iPeng and SqueezePad.

The good chap on the Logitech boards thought it might simply be that
there's too many files on the USB it overwhelms the Touch server - is
this likely..? I haven't tested stability with a smaller memory unit
yet, and I don't have a PC I can always keep running as a server.

Any help appreciated - it's such a great system when it works!

thanks

First suggestion is to plug in the drive start the server and WAIT. Do
not try and use it until it finishes its initial scan, this could be
some time depending on how big your collection is. Note: I do not use
TinySC (the server builtin to the touch) so I am not that familiar with
it operations but this is one of the key items I see mentioned.

Others might have other suggestions.

Hmmm, that brings up the thought of a real live mechanical VU meter box
that plugs into the Touch's USB port. It would take something like a
FTDI chip or USB AVR driving a serial DAC chip and a pair of good old
mechanical meters. None of this meter on the screen bit.

Or if you really want to be wierd how about a magic eye tube?

The DAC part could come from a horrendously cheap made in china USB dac
found in a music store and old fashioned VU's from a studio consol, Or

+1 thats the logitech store experience stay away use another shop if
you can :) note that you will probably not get any confirmation mail
with an order nr so that you can track your purchase and they don't
answer emails.
The product will just show up when you least expect it (or not) just 0
communication from them. So if don't noted the order nr on the screen
there is no way to figure that out later.

The products is good thou I'm quite happy with my Touch
