well I supose this is some safety margin, some user somewhere will have
the maximum amount off apps installed and use the Tiny server at the
same time and use screensavers.

wonder what happens if you load a 500 song spotify pl at a standalone

Look at custom clock applet-
I believe it supports some custom VU meters.
There are pre-made screens, and you can create personal screensaver.
My screens on the Radio are custom - both my "when off" screensaver
(shows large clock, weather information from SuperDateTime), and my
"now playing" screensaver which has larger-than-normal clock, cover art
which is augmented by LastFM images of the artist.

I decided to download the latest software on my Touch, even though it
said I had the latest release. After this, I reset the Touch to the

had, or it had saved some previous settings. All software has bugs. I
spent 30 years writing code.

I have changed so many settings, so many times, that the results I am
getting have changed also. I now just get "Can't Connect".

I have set my access point back to the way it was, so that I can use it
for my laptop. I am just going to wait until I get the Access Point

2011-06-02 Thread toby10

Or the common element of a router and an access point using two
different subnets. ;)

When you connect all of these laptops to both AP's (yours and your
friends):
- can you access the SBS remote web UI of the SBS server running on the
other DHCP router?
- what IP is being given to to these laptops?
- what IP is being given to your SBS server?
- do these laptops have internet access on this AP?
- have you verified (maybe ask your friend) if your AP might be using a
guest network?

When Touch uses the AP can your Touch connect to www.MySqueezeBox.com
and play a station? Touch > Internet Radio

Update -

A friend of mine that I had contacted showed up at my house this
afternoon with his NETGEAR WNDR3300 - RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N
Router, that he had been using as an Access Point in his home with
quite a few wireless devices. He is far more knowledgeable than I am
with networks.

He hooked up the new router as an Access Point and promptly connected
his laptop to it. I also connected my Laptop to it. The SBtouch could
not connect to it.

He told there is a problem with the SBT connecting to an Access Point.
I could not disagree, 2 Different Routers, 3 Laptops functioning
perfectly. The only common element is the SBTouch.

That log is showing that the discovery protocol is not finding anything.
This is frequently caused by UDB being blocked somewhere along the
line.

I would get the status of the firewall itself (as others have said UFW
is just a frontend), do this by typing into a terminal:

iptables -L

You might have to put sudo in front of that or login as root. This will
tell you what your firewall rules REALLY are.

aha. The IP address for the AP router menu is now different so you need
to access it with the latest IP address in your browser. If your AP IP
address is now 192.168.0.15, you need to enter this in your browser:

http://192.168.0.15/

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Cannot access my Network Drive with New Access Point.......

2011-06-02 Thread Mnyb

if you are using static ip you have to setup everything well most things
ip gateway and dns and subnet seems be a minimum

For the AP something like.

IP 192.168.0.10
Subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1 ( the router )
Network 192.168.0.0
DNS 192.168.0.1 or your ISP's dns server or whatever you are using.

For theTouch something similar. But another ip the essence is that only
the ip should differ at the last segment for every device.

Another way to give static ip to a SqueezePlay device is to use ssh and
edit it's interfaces file.

You followed that guide and did not connect the "AP" to the router via
the WAN port ( sometimes marked internet or in or somesuch ) and used
one of the" AP's" LAN ports for conecting to the a LAN port on the
router, this was pionted out in Bold letters on that guide.
reason is that if use the WAN port youre using it as a NAT router and
still have two networks even if you managed to use the same adress
system on both networks.

Why are you advising him to create a separate subnet for the new AP?
Isn't the old router on 192.168.*0*.x? Putting the Touch on a separate
subnet is not a good idea, nor is it necessary.

I hate to say it after all he's been through, but I'd start all over,
get a better handle on exactly how the network is (and should be) set
up and renumber it from top to bottom.

The first thing that strikes me is that it's a little unusual having a
router at 192.168.0.150 - usually the router (gateway) is at x.x.x.1.
It doesn't have to be, but it's a bit more standard and makes it easier

something screwy with the network numbering that should be cleaned up.

an IP of:

192.168.0.15

gateway 255.255.255.0

DNS: 192.168.0.1

and for the static IP address of the TOUCH, it should be 192.168.0.xxx

192.168.1.15 (I just picked 15, as that is outside the DHCP range of
your router and I don't think you've assigned it manually to anything
else).

Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway IP address (your router address, which I recall is:)
192.168.1.1

OK, misunderstood

In order for me to do this on the AP, I need to enter.

IP address
IP Subnet/Mask
Gateway IP Address.

What do you suggest for those settings?

See if you can assign the IP of the AP, if you can just get the AP to
use the 1 instead of 0 you should be set.

Yes, I know and that is exactly why I ordered a dedicated access point
yesterday.

However there is something else going on as well. My 2 laptops can
successfully connect to this access point with no problems and get
assigned the correct IP Address. So there is a difference in IP address
assigning between the Touch and a Regular Laptop.

Touch correctly gets appropriate IP and subnet settings from DHCP from
all other routers/networks except your AP.

Yes, there may be something going on with my access point, but only for
the SBtouch. As I had said it functions perfectly with other wireless
devices. My Laptop, My wife's Laptop. I can switch back and forth from
the DHCP router and the AP , and it assigns Ip Addresses correctly.

I prefer to have separate SSID's and connect them manually. My touch
will stay connected to the Network I choose, regardless of signal
strength.

then definitely something going on with the 2nd AP. p.s. I have both

I don't even have to unplug the AP, as I have set different SSIDs to
the AP and the DHCP router. I can switch back and forth to each SSID
from the touch when selecting a wireless network. It does function
perfectly when connected to the DHCP router. I was only trying to boost
signal strength by adding the access point.

The SB players I believe will connect to the last WIFI AP it was
connected to if available even if there is another one nearby that is
stronger. You could try to unplug your AP temporarily and then the the
Touch should try to find the WIFI coming from your router (I assume your
main router has WIFI too). Then follow the steps to assign a wifi IP
address.

Also, see the pic. This is what my linksys router basic settings page
looks like and you can see that I've turned OFF DHCP. I've also given
this AP (old router) a fixed IP address (192.168.1.10).

Yes, I think the Access Point is functioning as a DHCP router, even
though I have disabled DHCP and the router status shows it disabled, as
the picture below illustrates. That is one reason that I ordered an
Access Point Device yesterday.

I had thought that by assigning a Static IP address to the touch you
could somehow override any dynamic assigning.

What is confusing to me, is that if the AP is assigning IP addresses,
why does my laptop connect to the access point and gets an IP address
from my main router? --- It is only the Touch that seems to get the IP
address. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

it sounds to me like your AP also is functioning as a DHCP router. Are

I've used that method to setup my TOUCH's that are ethernet connected.
I'm not sure, but I'm thinking that this method only sets the static IP
for when you are ethernet connected. So to set the static IP in your
WIFI connection, you need to be WIFI connecting and then manually enter
your IP address, etc. (yes, you have to enter the DNS twice it seems).
So try the method I suggested where you temporarily turn off your DHCP
server and then let the TOUCH try to connect (and fail) and then ask
for manual IP

I experience that with my Touch too (I use it pretty exclusively with a
USB stick).

Conducted no scientific tests, but I have impression that the long lag
happens with FLACs: it takes long time for Touch to extract the tag
information from the (larger) files.

With MP3s there is a lag too but much shorter, less than a second.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Cannot access my Network Drive with New Access Point.......

2011-06-02 Thread Cut-Throat

OK - Here is what I did.

I was searching on the forum for setting a Static IP and came across
this post, from John Swenson, which I followed.

The secret is to connect the Touch to something that does not provide
DHCP services.

I recommend plugging it in (wired, NOT wireless) into a laptop ethernet
jack. The laptop should not be connected to anything else, escpecially
make sure it is not connected wirelessly to a router.

Goto the settings>advanced>networking menu and try and connect via
ethernet (wired connection). This will not find a DHCP server and
default to asking you for a static IP. Enter the IP address.

NOW you can disconnect it from the laptop and hook it up normally,
wired or wireless to your network.

John S.

I keyed in the following - I had 4 Prompts

1.) Enter IP Address - I entered 192.168.0.155 (My DHCP Router is
limited to 192.168.0.100 ~ 192.168.0.150
2.) Enter Subnet Mask - I entered 255.255.255.0
3.) Enter Gateway IP Address - I entered 192.168.0.1 (My DHCP Router)
4.) Enter DNS IP Address - I entered 192.168.0.1 again -- Confused here
as I have 4 prompts instead of the 3???

After doing this I checked diagnostics to see the IP Address of the
Touch and it said 192.168.0.155

So, then, I unhooked my Touch from the Laptop and Wirelessly connected
to my Access Point and sure enough the IP Address changed back to
192.168.1.2 and it fails again.

Someone here can probably see what I did wrong, but it's not obvious to
me.

Help!!! - Thanks!

1. temporarily turn off the DHCP server on your router
2. (you may need to do a factory reset on TOUCHthe little button
above the power cord on back).
3. After reset, Touch will start setup. It will search for an IP
address and won't get one (because DHCP is off). After a minute or so
it will give up and you can enter IP manually (may have to scroll down
a bit on screen to see this option). In my case, I enter this:

IP: 192.168.1.21 (the 21 is my choice and is outside my router's DHCP
range of 100 to 254)
gateway: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.1.1

note: if it asks for more digits, IP would be something like:
192.168.001.021

My router is 192.168.1.1

Then finish the setup, etc. Then you can turn the DHCP in your router
back on.

p.s. may not be neccesary, but I can say that I have ALL my SB players
and CONTROLLER setup with true static IP addresses and this has always
been rock solid for me.

Yes, I can connect to the DHCP router with no problems and it gets a

problems. I am only having problems with connecting to the new access

buffer, until adjustments that are made arrive on the speakers.
As SqueezePad also provides gapless playback I can listen to a full
album in very good sync.

Android provides something similar, but here it depends on the devices
how good the numbers are provided to the App.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 100 song max in playlist using Tiny SBS??

2011-06-02 Thread Mnyb

Maybe with 7.6 fw after they found the dB optimisation bug performance
with playlist is much better.

But it is still not good.

A good idea can be to disable unecessary stuff on the touch to free
performance and memory.

if you are not using wifi you can comment out this in the startup
scripts, turning of loggin and samba ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 100 song max in playlist using Tiny SBS??

2011-06-02 Thread pippin

I would be careful. I believe you will not be too happy with a 500-track
playlist on TinySBS.

I would try to get the Dynamic Playlists plugin installed on the touch
and then use that to play the larger playlist, it only moves 20 or so
tracks at a time to the current playlist.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Cannot access my Network Drive with New Access Point.......

2011-06-02 Thread toby10

Until your player & SBS server are on the same network and subnet you
will have issues.
Have you tried setting a static IP on the Touch? Turn off DHCP,
attempt connection, set network parameters on Touch manually.
Could also be that Touch had been set to static IP before so now it is
asking for an incorrect IP?
Tried turning off the added AP, just connect Touch to the DHCP router
alone? See if it gets a correct IP?

My Touch + A5 speakers get connected to four different WiFi networks
every year as a mobile audio system, all of these networks are unique,
Touch connects every time.

JJ is right, my mistake. The file is
/etc/squeezecenter/prefs/server.prefs and the setting is
maxPlaylistLength

Drag our your vi editor skills, or ssh into the Touch using a tool like
WinSCP.

My previous warning (and JJ's) about increasing this setting above 100
still apply.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Synchronizing

2011-06-02 Thread Stu-e

Pippin
Do you ever expect a 'soft' player like iPeng (or SqueezePlayer,
SqueezeSlave etc) to synchronise properly?

Technically sounds difficult to me. Phone OS's I would not expect to
give any indication of the time lag from decoding to amplifying an
audio signal.

Thanks for that - That was the first thing I did - but maybe I didn't
search for the right parameters? I found alternate screensavers but no
text-less ones.
