Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 'connection refused' by squeeze server

2011-06-07 Thread jgoor

Problem Solved.

It occured to be related to my Svaesoft Alchemy v1.0 router software on
my Linksys WRT54Gv2.

I first tried to do some extra portforwarding and hassling with
iptables but nothing worked. Then I flashed the damn thing with Tomato
v1.28 and the thing wasn't damned anymore!

Thanx everybody!

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SBT with USB Hard Drive

2011-06-07 Thread toby10

You could also try using FAT32 instead of NTFS, FAT seems to be more
Touch friendly.

Tags, file consistency, and file organization are important for any
database program. The less capable/powerful the database (TinySBS) the
more important these factors become.
If you owned three different business' and each had their own filing
and organization setup plus ran on three different computer programs
you would also crash at tax time. ;)

Tagging programs like MP3Tag can batch convert all ID3 tag versions
into a single consistent ID3 version.
Eventually you will want such consistency anyway irregardless of
SqueezeBox and SBS server, you may as well start now. :)

The whole point of having a router/network is to simply and easily
interconnect such devices.
You would be greatly over complicating a simple setup by bypassing an
easy solution that already exists.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Odd SBS question

2011-06-07 Thread grusch

I have an older PC that I purchased to use for multi-track audio
production about 5-6 years ago. It's never been networked and I
disabled as many unnecessary services on it as possible to make it run
better while recording or playing back multiple large audio files and
running multiple plug-ins, etc.

I thought it would be easier for me to just connect the SBT directly to
it via ethernet since at this point I am only looking to add the one
player and wi-fi or multi-room capability isn't necessary for me (small
house).

Not necessarily. The PC in question is in a remote part of the basement
far from my router. To me it would seem more complex to run an ethernet
back to my router and then a second cable to the SBT when I could run
one line directly to the SBT. I am planning on using the SBT to play my
own library, I hadn't considered using it for internet radio and
probably won't.

Or, make one of the devices (PC or Touch) wireless, running ethernet to
the device more easily accessible via ethernet.
For dedicated wired PC to Touch you can use ICS (Internet Connection
Sharing) which essentially turns your PC's network card into a router.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SBT with USB Hard Drive

2011-06-07 Thread Lynxo

boy, what a mess. it should be really simple.

I have my music folder structured like this, 2 main folders, FLAC and
MP3:

FLAC\

Classical\
1. CD Title\songtracks
2.
3.

Greatest Hits\
1.
2.
3.

MP3\
Singer or CD Album\title

and so on. like previous posts mentioned, search by folders not tags.
I will try it on the SBT later this week using the my music folder,
I could have sworn it was empty when I went there.

for the tags part, this area I'm unclear on.

I'm using EAC to rip the CD's for FLAC. I click the GET CD info and
it brings in the titles. I do the detect gap and then rip the cd to
music folder.

for the tagging part, I'm not sure if the EAC is getting the tag
information. I'm assuming the music CD does not have any tag info on
it.

I have no problems redoing the hard drive but if I'm going to spend
time to re do it, I want to do it right.

The SBT is not cheap, it should at least do what the WD does.

btw, is there any plugin or some way to tell what format is playing?

FLAC,WAVE,MP3 and sampling rate?

typically created by the program you rip the CD with at the time you
rip (EAC, foobar2000, and I think even dbpoweramp will rip to FLAC with
cuesheets now (maybe its the beta).

not sure how to create a CUE sheet after the fact for an already ripped

[SlimDevices: Touch] How to rescan TinySBS library?

lossless files are being transcoded to some lower bitrate. They are

When you turn on the Touch it should run a scan. Try rebooting it using
the switch on the back, or cycle the power.

I thought that there was also something in the Settings to do a manual
scan. Have you poked around in there?

It's not the bitrate of the decoded audio, but it's not an estimate
either. It's the _streaming_ bitrate of the file, which depends on the
amount of compression that the file has undergone. Since Flac files
compress to different degrees depending on the audio content, this

but it is always incorectly reported for transcoded files a typical
16/44.1 rate is shown.

A 24/96 flac file will show correct rate a 24/96 alac transcoded to
