So...do you specifically think it needs to be -powered-? I got the
impression, it had to do with asynchronous...between usb1 and usb2
(that's kinda what the EDO says).

My thinking is powered because the Touch is possibly struggling to
provide the power to drive the USB connection in the speakers, and is
rebooting as a result.
The stock PSU is adequate to power the Touch, but not necessarily other
devices.

I could be completely wide of the mark - I have been before and
doubtless will be again :)

There is also something iffy with USB drivers on many ARM platform hence
the HUB will assist . I would try a powered one .

Not sure that unpowered ones have the chipset you want .

I'm sorry to say...even with a powered hub; it seems to be doing the
same thing.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Announce: Enhanced Digital Output app - USB Dac and 192k Digital Ouput

2014-05-05 Thread tdgruen

So I finally joined the asynchronous USB club! Figured I would just
plug everything in and then bliss out to the world of Super Hi Rez! And
then there are things called real world issues right?

I'm learning as I go, but I still am a relative moron when it comes to
the details of all of this. I'm getting signal dropouts somewhere in
the chain and I'm not sure if it's the EDO that's the issue, or my wifi
network, or something else. My new NAD D 1050 DAC is not on the current
supported list for EDO, so someone here might quickly tell me that until
its been proven to work, all bets are off. The 1050 requires a software
driver to be installed on PCs using USB, but it's plug and play for Mac.
Mine is connected to my SBT of course. So there's that.

When I send music to my new DAC directly from my Macbook Pro, via USB, I
have no problems, so I know it's not the source files. I used to play
these 192 files with no issue wirelessly to my SBTPeachtree Nova and
had no problems then either, even with 192. The older Nova that I had
hooked up maxed at 24/96, and was not asynchronous so I was going from
the Nova to the SBT via coax and also optical. I guess it was just
downsampling at the Nova. But the 192 files got wirelessly to my SBT
without any apparent problems, leading me to believe that this isn't a
wifi issue. Does that make sense so far??

I went through my SBT settings last night and did some kind of a kernel
update. I'm at work right now so I don't have the menu in front of me.
I honestly have no freaking clue what a kernel even is! I got these
similar inconsistent dropouts before and after the update. And just an
aside, the difference in sound between the Peachtree Nova's older DAC
and this NAD is significant. Put a big fat grin on my face immediately!
The Nova is an integrated DAC/amp, but I was just using it as a
dedicated DAC fixed output to my Anthem 225 integrated.

So that's my main issue at the moment. Hoping something I said will
lead to a reasonably likely solution to these dropouts.

I have other questions about the differences in playing 192 files
through USB vs Coax vs Toslink that can come later. I think I'm right
that you get the best chance of low jitter if you take advantage of the
asynchronous USB. Not sure what the variables are if you chose to go
out of the SBT another way. I'm guessing that you're not getting the
best connection possible---in other words---if you're output device has
USB, then use USB, right??

Any help would be appreciated!!

[SlimDevices: Touch] Spotify and the Squeezebox are NOT playing well together.....

2014-05-05 Thread Ocean56

I downloaded and installed Triode's app. All seemed to be going well.
But now.

2 examples. the other day, I played the new CD by Abdullah Ibrahim
(Mukasa). It played with NO problems. NOW, when I try to play it
AGAIN, it tells me that 'this track is not available in your region'.
Um, yes, it IS! Or WAS.

TONIGHT...I tried to play Steely Dan's 'Aja'. I tried BOTH listings on
the Squeezebox menu for the album. BOTH of them told me 'this track is
not available in your region'.
I KNOW better than that.

So how do I fix the problem? The above are only the 2 most recent
examples!
