You're right, You can't have a PSU for audio that does not use a mercury
arc rectifier. 
It make the sound really smooth.

An ac motor with a flywheel conected to a DC generator onnthe same shaft
. The contraption could be mounted on a half ton plinth with rubber
feets . Standing in your basement .
