Interesting, you might be able to do it with a crossover cable: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_crossover_cable Better, I think, would be to solve the wifi problem. Try moving your network to another channel; 1, 6 and 11 are best. Are you in a "wifi-congested" area, e.g. apartment building? Are your Touch and laptop particularly distant from your wireless router? Is the problem on all media or just on "hi-res"? Take care doing this as the front display is connected to the circuit board within the enclosure by two ribbon cables. The rulers used for scale in the photos show that there is alignment between two plastic stubs on the back of the front panel and two openings near where the screws were removed to take off the metal base. Can you push something through these openings and force the front panel away from the surrounding enclosure? You may need to insert the edge of a credit card into any gap you create in order to keep this gap open. Use a second credit card to move outward from the gap you created. As you move, the front panel should release. Take care not to insert the credit cards too far into the Touch or you run the risk of disloging a component part or ribbon cable. Not particularly difficult, but also not easy if you've not done it before and don't have the right tools. You might consider replacing the Touch with a Raspberry Pi-based player. You have a USB DAC so the connection between the two is a standard printer cable (USB Type A to USB Type B). There are guides online on how to assemble the player: it all snaps together, no soldering involved. Total cost including a metal case and power supply would be under $100. Just so you're up to date, I'd suggest installing the current LMS beta: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/index.php?ver=8.2 Then, go into LMS Settings > Plugins and enable the "Community Firmware for Touch/Radio/Controller" and "Material Skin" plugins. This will prompt a server restart. It may take a day or so, but your Touch should eventually prompt you to install the newest firmware. Open a browser on your iPhone and go to http://[your.LMS.server.IP]:9000/material to manage playback. I'm not a user of TIDAL, but it might require the EDO applet if you are trying to play files above 24/96; in any case, it won't hurt anything to install it: [TOUCH] Settings > Advanced > Applet Installer > (at the bottom enable "Reinstall after Firmware Update") > Enhanced Digital Output Appreciate your offer to ASR. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Classic v3 vs touch
The Squeezebox Classic/SB3 is limited to 24/48 which would not seem to be an issue for your sources. If connected to a DAC, I wouldn't expect to hear any difference between it and a Squeezebox Touch. The Touch is reported to have a better sounding analog output (internal DAC), but I can't confirm as mine have always been connected to an external DAC. The SB3 does not have USB output, but does have optical and coax. Of course, no display of album art and no "touch" screen as the SB3 display does not support this. If you buy an SB3, be sure to get the remote and power supply. If you don't need a physical display, the DAC32 or Raspberry Pi is a less expensive option and supports higher bitrates. An RPi can be equipped with a HiFiBerry add-on board to provide analog out on RCA, S/PDIF out via optical or coax, or an amplifier to connect directly to stereo speakers. Touch is natively able to process 24/96 (and can pass up to 24/192 to an external DAC with optional "Enhanced Digital Output" applet). You only need EDO if you want to play files above 24/96; it has no effect on "sound quality". The DAC in the Touch has held up surprisingly well, but there's no harm in trying a newer external DAC. Upon further investigation, I learned that it will respond but only at short range (under 10'). Is this something that happens with these units, and can it be repaired? Thanks. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] One cause of rebuffering on the Touch
I know it's a bother, but I'd temporarily install LMS (no customizations nor additional plugins) on one of your desktop PCs, index some music files on the same PC, and try to play your Touch from there. You point the Touch to the new server by: My Music > Switch Library. If the above is successful, consider getting a Raspberry Pi for use as an LMS server. Many people on this forum can help with RPi issues. Your configuration (Arch/Wandboard) is not that common, so finding help is going to get increasingly difficult. Assuming DSDPlayer is configured correctly (see below), then you might try another S/PDIF cable or switch between coax/optical. It's not unheard of that optical cables can be a limiting factor. The specs of your DAC are that it receives DoP via S/PDIF at 24/176 (DSD 64), and if properly working the display will say "DoP". Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Today vs 2012; What's different today in the Squeezebox world?
I'll just add that the Touch remains a very competitive device for the purposes you've described. It's DAC is fine for direct output to a set of small powered speakers, and if connected to an external DAC it is completely up to the demands of a great system. The Raspberry Pi solutions come into play if you want to add a zone, or if a Touch stops working; their sound quality is as good or better than the Touch. For me, the big improvement of the past eight years has been the convenience of using mobile devices as control points. There are apps for Android and iOS that duplicate the library and control functionality of LMS. There also is now, as mentioned, a contemporary "Material Skin" installable via plugin that looks great on desktop or in mobile browser. There is nothing I need from Squeezebox that it can't do. Try it. A 32GB SD card or 64GB flash drive costs under $10 so not much to lose. The biggest issue with "Tiny SC" is speed (library rescans, in particular), but it may be adequate for your friend particularly if the card/drive is updated infrequently. The steps required to do this are not that difficult so you should be able to walk your friend through it remotely. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Think I've killed my Touch following upgrade
The current firmware is here: http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.9.2/ Touch is "fab4.bin". Copy it to a blank USB key and insert in rear of Touch. If Touch were functional, you'd select Settings > Advanced > Software update. In your case, I'd do a "Factory Reset" by holding the button above ethernet port on rear of Touch until you see a message on screen. Hopefully, it will detect and reload the firmware. I'm not completely sure about that last part, so you may want to hold off until you get more advice. In any case, if you try it I doubt you'll be in any worse situation. In the event the problem is with the Touch's onboard wifi, you might first try resetting the Touch while connected via ethernet. If this works, you have options. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SQB Touch lost files
"New music" is determined by file modification date. Since you've been copying things around, you've probably changed them all. If you are missing expected albums in New, try finding them by Artist. If not there, run a "Clear library" rescan. If still not there, they are not in your library or they are improperly tagged. Check that LMS is pointed to the correct external drive and that the "missing" files are on the drive. You can make files "New" again by updating the file modification date. This can be done with Mp3tag or any file attribute changer. Touch will natively play 24/96; install EDO applet to get 24/192. At 192, optical can be sketchy over long run or on cheap cable so recommend coax for those cases. The easiest way is to "reserve" an IP for your Touch via your router; check router instructions. Otherwise, google "squeezebox touch static ip". You need to SSH into the Touch to disable wifi; google "squeezebox touch disable wifi". It's a lot of bother for something of unproven benefit. On Touch, tap the "Now Playing" bar, scroll to "More Info", scroll down to bitstream info. If you want this information to display on "Now Playing" screen, you can probably do it using the "Custom Clock" plugin. LMS couldn't be simpler so I doubt it is the source of your problems. Install the latest release version: 7.9.1. Open LMS Control Panel and confirm it is set to index only the folder(s) where your music library is located. Make sure there are no shortcuts to other folders in the target folders. Do a "Clear and Rescan" library rebuild. The "Unable to find" error is probably due to your Touch looking to the IP address of the old LMS server. After doing the above, on the back of the Touch above the power plug is a reset button. Press and hold this button until the Touch restarts. It will guide you through the initial setup again. Post back with results. Issues with duplicates and incomplete CDs are probably due to file tagging problems unrelated to LMS. If you don't mind doing your controlling via phone/tablet/web, I'd suggest a Raspberry Pi running piCorePlayer. Has analog and HDMI output, or you can purchase an add-on board to provide S/PDIF output or a better analog output. Worst case, about $120 and just as capable as the Touch it replaces. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] My Touch is malfunctioning. Need some assistance.
You might try rewriting the firmware. Put the BIN file on a USB or SD drive, unplug the Touch, insert drive, plug back in. With luck it will post to the point of reading the drive and asking to update firmware. Touch is "fab4": http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/ Apesbrain's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=738 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108117 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Incredible claims about all kinds of things are made every day by knowledgeable people and by those in authority. This thread is almost seven years old and no one to date has demonstrated that any of these add-on devices stand up to scientific scrutiny. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Which is correct/latest firmware version for Touch ?
swayzak wrote: > However then connected to very latest 7.9x release (1st July) and still > no offer of 7.8.0 software/firmware update. Copy "fab4_7.8.0_r16754.bin" and "fab4.version" from the link garym provided above to that same directory on your server. Restart your server and you should see a message on your Touch about new firmware being available. Otherwise, do a manual update via Touch: Home > Settings > Advanced > Software Update. P.S. For some time I ran my two Touches with a mix of 7.8.0 and 7.7.3 and never noticed any difference. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Connect SBT To Oppo UDP-203 Blu-ray Player
Looking at the manual, it's not clear to me that the Oppo can be used in the way you want. There are no S/PDIF inputs and the USB inputs on the front and rear panels are not the typical USB "B" type used for this purpose. Plus, there is no description in the manual of how the device can be used as a USB DAC for an external streamer. You might want to ask your question to Oppo customer service and post their response back here for others to know. 'Owner's Manual' (http://download.oppodigital.com/UDP203/UDP-203_USER_MANUAL_ENGLISH_V1.0.pdf) There are other options: 1. Assemble a Squeezelite player from a Raspberry Pi and use it to play from LMS into the Oppo HDMI input. This can cost as low as $50 and will support your 24-bit files; and, you can redeploy your Touch to another room. 2. Buy a S/PDIF or USB > HDMI converter and link through it from the Touch to the Oppo. I'm not that familiar with these devices, but no reason it should not work. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Cant open file..?
You're saying the file will play on your Touch if opened via LMS "Music Folder", but not if by "My Music"? Is that My Music on the Touch or in LMS? That file location string looks odd to me; is it possibly referencing some kind of shortcut? Then again, you say it works fine on your Radio so I'm stumped. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Newbie SBT User
Both of my SBT are running firmware 7.7.3-r16676 and LMS 7.9 without issue. You can get 24/192 playback on the Touch using the "Enhanced Digital Output" applet: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?94512-Announce-Enhanced-Digital-Output-app-USB-Dac-and-192k-Digital-Ouput=enhanced+digital+output Apesbrain's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=738 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107312 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
