Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Dead Touch?

Hello Dave.

I've also connected a higher voltage PSU to my Touch. Did you ever
manage to fix yours? If so, do you have any detail that might help me
fix mine?

Thanks.

During beta testing I requested that an option be included to enable

Neither is going to happen.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Where can i get a touch in the u.s.?

2010-06-08 Thread ModelCitizen

The Touch a had a torturous birth. It sat on the warehouse shelves for
ages whilst TinySC was being honed and the bugs ironed out and even
then it was released before it did what it said on the can (TinySBS is
woefully inadequate and does not match up to the marketing spiel: does
not handle large libraries, scanner stuffs up play, no way to set path
to library, etc).

The product concept is flawed - a touch screen on a device tethered by
wire to your systems amplifier? Surely a smaller touch screen on a
mobile remote (like iPeng on an iPhone for instance) would make more
sense or a big display screen (not necessarily touch) for display near
near the hifi? It falls between all the stools.

And now the Touch is not being supplied to resellers and is sold via
Amazon and Logitech. This must make it simpler to administer returns,
and you've got to assume it's enough outlet to shift existing stock. Do
you think there are any more being made?.

Current Touch development/bug fixes are supported by a single
developer, very, very part time. What are the other Logitech developers
doing?.

Join up the dots chaps.

As it is designed at the moment the Touch can do nothing *but* scan your

  a USB drive
- I have no interest it using it at all really

I find that I use my main PC less and less. The iPhone and the laptop
have taken over most of what I used to use it for.

Whether I use the Touch's TinySBS will depend upon how fast it is,
whether BBC iPlayer plugin will run on it reliably (a deal breaker) and
possibly if some other plugins work OK on it or not.

I will really miss MusicIP though... and upon reflection that might be
enough by itself to stop me using TinySBS.

There have been some large changes with the software platform recently.
These changes are aimed at putting the software in good stead for future

Logitech may have jumped the gun with the pre-ordering but they were
forced to announce the product due to inept resellers letting the cat

If I was you I could think of the delay as a good thing. Maybe Logitech
have felt it necessary to ensure they release a tip-top bug free

H.. much as I'd like to edit the directory TinySC scans my Linux
command line skills are not up to that. I can start the scanner as you
suggest though and will do next time. BTW. I attach my USB drive via
SataII cable to my main Windows machine (hmm I woinder if this means I
can have it attached to both the TOuch and my main machine at the same
time?) and there is not way to detatch it elegantly (as there might be
with USB) so I have to either pull out the cable or power the drive
down. I guess this means that the TinySC code will always report:

The disk contains an unclean file system (0, 0).
The file system wasn't safely closed on Windows. Fixing.

I atempted to use the Touch whilst the scanner was operating and the
device crashed and restarted by itself. Then I couldn't get it to see my
main music library. It kept trying to find my Touch library even though
I'd turned TinySC off.

This is probably not the right forum for this.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] NTFS Support Needed for Touch

2009-11-06 Thread ModelCitizen

I was about to reformat my 1tb USB backup drive to Fat32 so I could try
out TinySC and as I result I've discovered:

1) It is impossible to format large USB drives to Fat32 using Windows
XP Pro or Windows 7 gui (which I assume means impossible with Vista
too).
2) The Fat32 file system is not capable of holding files larger than
4gb
3) The Fat32 file system is wasteful on disk space
4) Increasingly modern USB drives are being shipped formatted as NTFS
4) TinySC is not slated to support NTFS till 8.0.1 ()

None of the reasons given in the bug/enhancement for not supporting
NTFS at launch add up when compared to the pain this will cause Touch
buyers and Logitech support. NTFS support at release is not an
enhancement, it's a necessity.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Will we ever see an in-car version of the Touch?

What about the fact that iPod interface is definitely not steering

I've not had one idea for an app that has not already been made. :-).
Try PlaySafe. Works for me.

A 32gb iPhone 3GS is fine in the car. It'd be nice if it was larger
capacity and did flac, only so I did not have to maintain two libraries,
but no-one is going to notice the difference in sound quality (not even
if they drive a Rolls Royce).

With Google's recent announcement about its maps/streetview stuff
morphing into a free GPS system not only has the smart phone made car
many car stereo head units redundant, they're about to make stand-alone
GPS systems redundant too.

Think the third party Squeeze plugins and applets are important?
Then 'vote for bug 14194'
(http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14194) so more can be
made.
