So I was going to use the SBT tonight. First window I got was this a blank server window with no information in it. Then a window came up saying an unexpected error occurred while validating your mysqueezebox.com account. Please make sure network connectivity is working fine. Which it is. So whats the issue?? 1. I will check the audio settings. It didn't occur to me to do so because I've never changed them. 2. I have LMS installed on a Windows 10 PC, and also have a hard drive connected. But when I start the SB, I often have to reboot it or the PC with LMS to get them to talk to each other. 3. [SlimDevices: Touch] Several SB Touch issues....
1. All of a sudden, the Touch is too quiet. By that I mean that its startup chime is barely audible, as are the noises that it makes when you search or turn it off. Is this a sign that it has issues? 2. This is probably an amateur user issue, but lately when I turn on the PC that I use to connect between my hard drive and the Touch, LMS loads. After that, I have a devil of a time getting the SB to connect to either the HD or LMS. I uninstalled and reinstalled Spotty the other day. Same issues today- I had to reboot the SB and my PC to even get the SB to connect. 3. Lists load very, very slowly on the SB. And tonight, when I tried to select an artist on my list (David Boswell), the SB would buffer, and then bring up selections for David BOWIE. 4. The SB itself seems warm to the touch. Not hot, but warmer than it used to be. Are any of these issues related? What can I do to try to resolve them? Thanks in advance! [SlimDevices: Touch] Spotify times out on Squeezebox
Just this week, no matter what I do, I get an error message telling me that Spotify timed out trying to connect. I tried rebooting my laptop and the Squeezebox multiple times. No change. I reran the software update. Same. I reset to factory defaults. No change, either. I can still connect to the music on my hard drive with no problem. Do I need the Spotty app instead? Should I uninstall and reinstall Spotify? I'm running the server on an ancient laptop with Windows XP - is that the issue? I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do next. I see threads on here about Spotify no longer supporting SBT. Is this true?? I have Triode's app running on my laptop, but I've mainly used the app on the SBT itsellf. Now my library has disappeared! Can I get my library somehow transferred over to the Triode app? Is there anything else I can do? Frankly, this is the main reason I HAVE an SBT. It's outrageous that support for an app THAT I PAY FOR has stopped. [SlimDevices: Touch] SBT is not picking up CDs I just ripped onto my hard drive
I just ripped 5 CDs onto my 1TB Western Digital hard drive. I then opened SBS on the laptop I use strictly for that purpose. SBS added the CDs successfully to the folder on the HD that I use for the music that I rip. I then turned on the SBT to play one of the just-ripped discs. It wasn't listed in the new-music list, although a lot of OTHER music was listed, some from being added quite awhile ago. So I re-scanned for music in SBS. I did a software update on the SBT. I also re-booted both the laptop and the SBT (by pulling the plug on the SBT). I went into SBS settings and looked at the library. The CDs I ripped are in it and in my folder on my hard drive. The SBT will NOT find them when I search, either by album or by artist. What's my next step? Thanks as always! Uninstalling and reinstalling the LMS server on my laptop did the trick! I was able to put in the correct email address for mysqueezebox.com. Spotify works like a dream with Triode's plugin. Thank you for all of the assistance! I LOVE the SB Touch, and can't imagine my musical life without it, now. My only complaint has been an utter lack of documentation on how to do anything with it. Why does the SB Touch want to do an update (the same ones over and over) every time it's powered up? And now that I FINALLY got Triode's Spotify plug in installed, why isn't it working? It brings up information, then I get black screens for each song title saying it's getting information or something, then whatever i'm trying to play reads stopped and won't work. Also, the mysqueezebox.com email address on the Touch itself is my current address. On the LMS Server on my laptop, it's my old email address. When I try to change the email and password to the current ones ON the Touch in LMS Server, it tells me there was a networking error connecting to mysqueezebox.com! Should I reset the SB to factory defaults and try again? Uninstall LMS on my laptop and reinstall it? This is why I'm always hesitant to tweak the SB - it leads to hours of frustration getting it operating again! Thanks. Correction: it worked like a charm until I shut down the laptop I use for my LMS server NOW it brings up playlists on the Touch, but then messages pop up that connection was reset by host and tracks say 'stopped'. Last time my Touch did a software update, I noticed an orange logo labeled Spotify Core on my SB screen. Curious, I clicked on it. A COMPLETELY different menu came up, including Spotify Radio and the ability to stream genres (blues, classical, jazz, etc), as well as all of the search functionality. When I tried USING some of the functions, my SB acted as though it would work, then an error message appeared referring to C:\\Spotify ? not being available or open. Does the Core logo mean that I CAN stream Spotify Radio if I have Spotify itself open on the laptop that I currently use to run the Squeezebox Server? I'd REALLY like to use the other functions that seem to be available using Spotify Core (unless it won't work for some reason). Thanks! Half of Spotify's features won't even WORK on the SB Touch. I found that out by logging into Spotify for the first time on my laptop (I've used it exclusively w/the Touch until now). NOW the Touch has installed something called 'Spotify Core' that evidently doesn't work. At least no one's replied to my earlier thread. So what works BETTER, has the same or great quality, and access to lots of music of all genres? Oh, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg per month? Thanks! I downloaded and installed Triode's app. All seemed to be going well. But now. 2 examples. the other day, I played the new CD by Abdullah Ibrahim (Mukasa). It played with NO problems. NOW, when I try to play it AGAIN, it tells me that 'this track is not available in your region'. Um, yes, it IS! Or WAS. TONIGHT...I tried to play Steely Dan's 'Aja'. I tried BOTH listings on the Squeezebox menu for the album. BOTH of them told me 'this track is not available in your region'. I KNOW better than that. So how do I fix the problem? I don't get ANY message telling me the track is not available on the Touch. It brings up the album/track listings, and ACTS as though it's playing them, but does not. 1. Is there any way possible to save Spotify playlists on or THROUGH the SB Touch? 2. Is there any way to use the Spotify library feature on or through the DB Touch? Or does that matter at all? 3. I'm a fan of British prog-rock band Camel. Spotify brings up all or most of their many albums on the SB, including artwork, etc. But NONE of them will play! Why not? I posted this question on the Spotify forum and have received NO response (note: I can play Camel tracks through Pandora on the SB with no problem). Other than the above questions, I'm a HUGE fan of this app on the SB! Sound quality is excellent, and I love being able to bring up almost any recording I can think of whenever I want to do so. Randomplay is much easier for the computers cpu, squeezeboxserver is a very ineficient program when handling large playlists, they made rocket science out of it. But running it on fast pc you wont always notice. While in the performance settings use the high memory setting it makes everything faster and better if you ram to spare. OK, I now have my laptop and 1TB hard drive connected to the Squeezebox. I probably have 20-30 CDs burned to the drive. I use dbpoweramp to burn the tracks. My question MIGHT involve tagging. When I try to do random playlists, the SB always selects tracks from complete CDs that I've already been playing through it. Shouldn't random choose either tracks or albums or genres from the entire music folder? Do I need a tagging program so it will do that? I've read through the SB PDF several times trying to figure that out, but I can't seem to come up with an answer. OK, have been enjoying the Touch streaming radio stations. Time for a new phase! 1. I will be loading SB Server onto a laptop, and connecting a USB external HD to that. What format should I use to rip CDs onto said drive? And do I connect the drive itself the the Touch via USB or Cat5 cable? 2. I can easily switch back and forth from streaming wirelessly to using my tracks stored on the HD, right? 3. FIRST, the SB Touch kept starting to play, then powering off. NEXT, it kept trying to connect to mysqueezebox.com, but could not. Did I solve my own problem by starting Squeezebox Server on my pc? Ever since I started it, NO rebuffering! Does this mean if I UNinstall it from my pc, I can go back to streaming with the /touch and not have buffering issues? So in the process of using the Squeezebox Touch, I discovered radioIO. I REALLY like their 70's rock station. What I DON'T like is constant drop outs (rebuffering?)... Example...I want to save WDET HD2 to my favorites on the Squeezebox. I search for it, hold down on it when I find it, and get the menu letting me add it to my favorites. But it's not on the My Favorites list when I go back into that! AND I've successfully added 2 other stations! OK. I downloaded sample files from HDTracks.com. When I right click on them and choose properties, it tells me they are 2496 files and asks me how i want to open them. I picked Windows Media Player, since I have no other players installed on this PC. The Squeezebox does NOT recognize them when I rescan my library, or scan for new music. Windows Media Player does not play them on the pc because it says it doesn't recognize the codec. So I loaded Squeezebox Server on my PC. I DID have some music files on it, and the Touch played them without any trouble. I also downloaded itunes, since there was a little checkbox in the Squeezebox Server setup that suggested it as a default. NOW I'm downloading some sample FLAC files from HDTracks.com. HDTracks says itunes won't PLAY FLAC files, and suggests using something called Mediamonkey. Do I download MM? My family totally surprised me and got me a Touch for Christmas! I've got it set up now and streaming from my Linksys router to my stereo system - it was simple and easy to do. But I have some questions: 1. Will the quality of my internet connection and/or the broadcast quality of either an HD radio station or Internet radio station affect the sound? I'm asking because I noticed that every once in awhile, the sound doesn't seem to be as good from one song to another. 2. I want to use an old PC (strictly dedicated to this music project), an external HD, and start loading my CDs on it, as well as Squeezebox Server. Can I download the Vortex (?) Linux program TO that PC, AND use an external USB drive? I've browsed through the forum, and see conflicting opinions. Or am I better off simply using XP, the Squeezebox program, and the external HD? 3. Do I need to only choose a certain brand of HD for the external drive? Thanks for the fast response! I DID switch stations between tracks, and that's when I noticed a difference. The PC I'll be using is an older Dell, but it will be strictly dedicated to my music library. If the Vortex s/w works better, I have NO problem downloading it using it to run the Squeezebox. I looked at their forum earlier, and noticed some comments regarding using external hard drives. OK, as mentioned in my other post, my new Touch is set up and streaming Internet radio with no problem. The review in Stereophile suggests that streaming FLAC files has to be heard to be believed. I'm in the dark ages when it comes to PC audio files, so to my knowledge, I HAVE no FLAC files ON my PC! Can I save a CD to the PC hard drive AS FLAC files to try this out? This is what I want to do when I get a Squeezebox... 1. Use an old PC to run the Squeezebox server. 2. Buy a large external HD to rip CDs to. 3. Also be able to stream Internet radio stations (I have wireless). 4. Play all of the above through my receiver.
