You would only use the WHS version if you were installing LMS onto your server. FLAC is lossless but compressed so produces smaller files than WAV. In addition to file size, FLAC is more versatile for tagging. MP3tag is great for making changes to tags after a disc has been ripped. I use it heavily to tidy up tags. It allows for consistency across tracks (and albums too). Composers are searchable in LMS. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] direct connection of ssd
My advice after ripping my CD collection is to rip to FLAC from the outset. I started ripping to MP3 and am going back and re-ripping when I have time. If tagging is your passion then you will probably find that having done the job once you will end up tweaking later on as your tastes/preferences change. I never thought I was a pedant until I got into tagging! :D The sad thing, of course, is that only I appreciate it - the rest of the family couldn't really care! What sort of music are you ripping - classical or other? Classical brings its own complications. You need to decide how you want the music to look in the library and then work out how you can achieve this via tags. Automated tagging is great but there are limitations - the tagging may be incorrect or not as you want it. Use ripping software such as dBpoweramp and learn how to use MP3tag (this works with other formats including FLAC). You can cut and paste album information from the internet (the record companies have a wealth of information) into a text file and when you ae happy with this then you can upload the file into MP3tag. Use Google to search for album art (if you use Chrome then you have the ability to search for different sizes). Failing that, scan your CD covers, resize them to your desired size and add these to your tags. Check the Ripping and Tagging forum for further help and advice. Have fun! Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] which Controller for SBT..?
I have used the original Squeezebox app (whilst it worked), Squeeze Commander and Orange Squeeze. I now use Squeeze Ctrl exclusively. Each player can be personalised and the dev has a separate player app too. Hi You sound like you have been having the same problem that I was having. In addition to ripping my music collections I also like to rip audiobooks. I like to record the reader (Artist) and the author (Album Artist). I was frustrated to find that I could search on the reader but not on the author until I amended the settings under Advanced Settings/My Music and select the option "Treat TPE2 MP3 tag as Album Artist". Select this option and then select Clear library and rescan and you should be able to search on both. This works regardless of whether the file format is flac or mp3.
