Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Internet tethering via iphone on the usb port
Hi, I see what you are getting at now, you need one of the hi-end digital docks for the ipod the access the digital data and then you feed the doc output to your dac or of its a Wadia dock direct to your amp and its not going to be cheap. The iphone is a mucher better as a portable audio device /controller than it is a Audiophile component but it can be made better see the new airplay facility on the B@W Zepplin. -- c3p0 c3p0's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20721 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84867 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Internet tethering via iphone on the usb port
Hi, A bit of confusion going on here. ORB software allows the Ipod Touch or phone to access your home PC via the internet from any location world wide.I dont know why you want or need your Touch for this? It's not required. Music resides on PC, both Touch and Iphone access can music via internal Internet ie Home, but only the Iphone can access from oustide ie external to the system, ie away from home. Therefore the Touch doesnt even have to be on for you to access your music on the PC using the Iphone but the PC does have to be on as that is where your music files are located I have streamed both music and video whilst i have been away from home to my ipod touch and laptop using ORB. hope this clears up the confusion -- c3p0 c3p0's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20721 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84867 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Internet tethering via iphone on the usb port
Hi, Check out ORBLIVE, you need to run it on your pc and load it as an app on your Ipod. But it gives you the ability to play Video and Music and even TV streamed from your home to wherever you are in the world via the internet. Thats a bit like buying a 42 inch plasma tv and poking your eye with a stick before you watch it. If your Dac only handles 16/44 its almost 100% guaranteed that the DAC within the touch feeding its own analog output will sound far superior. Try it. Most people who use an external DAC with the Touch will use one that exceeeds the quality of the internal dac ie ability to handle 24/196. By using a 16/44 DAC you are downgrading the quality available Native from the Touch. Try it...you wont be dissapointed -- c3p0 ---- c3p0's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20721 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81252 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Experiencing Touch for a couple of days
I am running a touch feed by ethernet via a vortexbox and controlled by ipeng iPod app and loving it. I bought it purely for the hi Rez capability, don't use its touch screen or it's server. Sound quality is superb ( feeding coax to mf v-dac). I think that this is one of the most cost effective ways into hi Rez music. Don't give up on the touch yet, it's early days and as we know from the other squeezebox products the software is improving with each release. -- c3p0 ---- c3p0's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20721 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78211 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Hi I think there may be a misunderstanding on the line input to the Squeezebox Radio it is only a line input, there is no internal A to D conversion, it doesnt convert the input (analog) into digital but just plays it through the radios speakers, it doesn't broadcast or stream it, and thats what your asking the Touch to do- to take an Analog input, digitise it and stream it. In order to get your vinyl into the Squeezebox system it needs to be converted from Analog into an acceptable digital format. The Squeezebox system can transcribe different digital formats into others. The Level of transcription is device dependant ie varies with product. you could buy a small FM transmitter (as used to get mp3s on to the car radio) connect it to the headphone output of the amp and now you can pick up vinyl on any FM radio in your house. Basically you need to convert Analog to Digital, get that loaded into memory acessible by the Squeezebox but then the (squeezebox) system can Transcribe one Digital Format to Another Digital format and stream it. Hope this clears up some of the confusion -- c3p0 ---- c3p0's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20721 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78137 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Line in?
Hi, The Squeezebox Radio only handles music in mp3 format using its external input. This means the music is already in the digital format. Your turntable outputs in the analog mode and would need an ADC( Analog to Digital convertor) to convert it to MP3 or some other Digital format. There are devices out there to do that. Project has one included in a Phono Stage. You would be much better getting one of these devices and converting your LP's as and when you play them and storing that on your Hard disc. Your LP would then be Digitally available without you having to touch the Black Stuff. You could also buy the CD version of your LP's (second hand on amazon is cheaper than new often ) and just RIP them. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] technical info audiophile about SB Touch
There are several items to download: squeezecentre: acts like iTunes but doesn't rip CDs squeezeplay; simulates Touch screen visually bit also allows you to hear the music rather than just control it; ie squeezecentre controls Audio to squeezebox squeezeplay--- plays audio on pc so look for the version that works with your PC type, windows, Linux, mac the physical squeezebox will out perform any Pc standard audio card. The beta testers are a group of people who Logitech gave TOUCH's too in order to road testvthem prior to launch and feedback improvements and bugs. -- c3p0 ---- c3p0's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20721 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72246 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] technical info audiophile about SB Touch
http://www.logitechsqueezebox.com/support/download-squeezebox-server.html and follow instructions from there. According to the Beta Testers for the TOUCH: the audio out is very good, an improved DAC is used, better than previous versions apart from the much more expensive (Troppo Caro) Transporter. The Digital Out is very very good with very low Jitter, so feeding an external DAC is improved As a standalone player feeding and amplifier, the TOUCH will be one of the most cost efficient ways of getting Audiophile sound up to 24/96 and if you use a better DAC it will just even better up to 24/192 and beyond (see new SIMAUDIO Moon 32 Bit DAC/Transport) You will have to wait with the rest of us to get your hands on the TOUCH, dont think it will be under my tree this Christmas, but soon I hope. -- c3p0 c3p0's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20721 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72246 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] technical info audiophile about SB Touch
CD PLAYER: CD read by laser converted to PCM (a Data set pulses) and sent to a DAC which converts it to analog. Several things affect the sound; the accuracy of the laser and error correction circuitry convert the CD on the fly to PCM and the DAC output stage used. All this is done in real time and the music output changes slightly each time you play the CD. Computer: CD read and error corrected accuratly because time not important, can be BIT perfect if using the EAC program. It can now be converted to a format like FLAC. FLAC takes up less space than PCM, so you can store more music and transmit it quicker. The FLAC can be sent to a Squeezebox by WIFI or ethernet. The electronic circuitry in the Squeezebox reconverts the FLAC to the PCM file (exact conversion: hence Lossless). The PCM is then sent to a DAC (built into the Squeezebox or external) which converts it to analog. The music output is always the same for the same music file. CD player and Squeezebox sound different for the same Music because the DAC output stage is different and the PCM input is variable on the CD player. With the Touch; it acts like a mini PC for handling music files and can handle up to 24/96 format, a cd is limited to 16/48. if you attach a Hard disc to the Touch, it can access the music files on that disc directly. if you connect the Touch to a network, the hard disc becomes a network disc and music files can be sent to it by other network users and even received from it. you can simulate the Squeezebox even Touch by using the free software in the download section. This will allow you to see how it handles music files and compare it to Itunes, you can even use Itunes to feed the Squeezebox (except for FLAC files). The only thing you need for the TOUCH is some way of getting music files too it and amplyfiying the Sound out of it. -- c3p0 c3p0's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20721 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72246 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] HDC H2 same screen size as Touch
Hi one of the main reasons for buying a touch is the ability to handle 24/96 files. I control my squeezebox with an iPod touch, so you can see the covers etc biography reviews inches from your eyes. I also use a wifi photoscreen to capture the HTML pages from the squeezecentre and display that too. Can't wait to get the touch to make better use of my HDTracks and LINN downloads. There are other tablet pcs that can also be used as display/ controller. I also understand that the touch has a presence sensor and changes the font size, album cover size if it detects some nearbye. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch or Touchscreen PC?
Hi Goody, It would help if we knew what your setup was already. For me if you are already squeezebox user the main reason to move to the Touch is for the Native 24/96. If your not a squeezebox user then then you have to balance up the cost ie a duet reciever plus a Ipod touch or a duet reciever plus a netbook against the Touch alone. I personally have a duet reciever (no controller) and an Ipod touch but i am considering the Touch purely for the ability to do 24/96 at less than half the price of that of the LINN Sneaky or Logitech transporter. The touch offers lots of additional functionality that hasn't been present before and it depends wither you are going to use it or not. IS your speaker/ amplifier good enough to resolve the benefits of 24/96? Due you need a standalone server rather than leave your PC on? I would love Logitech to build a no frills 24/192 version of the duet reciever, but they havent and i cant afford the transporter, so for upping the sound Quality it has to be the Touch. -- c3p0 c3p0's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20721 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69539 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
