Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Sales or discounts?

2010-04-14 Thread craiglester

Of course we feel snubbed, whould you not feel snubbed if you were in
the same situation? It's easy to be magnanimous about a deal when
you're the recipient of a companys largess, but theres always some who
will (in this case pretty justifiably) feel conned.

I've completed my customer satisfaction survey, and don't expect to
hear anything back from Logitech, but you've got to admit, placing new
customers at the head of the line for shipping AND giving them a
substantial discount, while older orders are still outstanding is
pretty poor customer service.

This isn't a criticism of Slimdevices Devs, the item or the software,
just the Customer service / sales / marketing departments.

 It's an emotional issue though.

If you go by the logic that customers should always be provided the
best price and treatment retroactively for their purchases I think
 there would be problems.

If you personally sold products I bet you might have a different
 perspective.

I'm not defending Logitech. I just see people Bashing the company on
all sorts of different points when really they would shut up if they
 got $75 bucks back.

Do I think people that per-ordered months ago should be given priority
in shipment? Yes. Would I get bent out of shape about it? Not really. I
don't need a product to make me feel speshel ;)

I work as a Quality Analyst for a Customer Service department, it's my
job to make sure customers are kept happy, and we we go to great
lengths to so. A great deal of companies DO have policies where the
customer is given the lowest price (often within 30 days), without the
customer needing to ask.

No, I don't need a product to make me feel special either, in fact on
general principle I'll probably return the Touch when it arrives.

While i agree it is a bit of a bad thing to do to people who just got

If you're referring to the Iphone $200 price drop, they did at least
give them half the money back in credit.

2010-04-13 Thread craiglester

I was on the phone with customer service, inquiring where my order was
as it still hadn't shipped, while this order was running, and they said
nothing about it.. So my order, placed last week will ship later than
those placed today, and cost me $75 more. Pretty disgusting customer
service, frankly.

Last Logitech item I'll ever buy if they're gonna treat customers like
this.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch Sound Quality with USB Drive

2010-04-10 Thread craiglester

bingcrosby;533100 Wrote:
 Hey guys,

I plan to purchase a Touch to avoid going down the PC streamer route.
I will be connecting it to an external hard drive directly via USB.
But I have a few questions about this:

 1) I have previously read that a directly connected USB drive with
FLAC files does not have the same sound quality as using SBS on a PC
streaming the same file in WAV format? Apparently, this was audible
with $5 headphones. This was a while ago, so could somebody confirm if
this is still the case. Does this effect only over analog outputs, or
 digital outputs as well?

 2) Does the Touch enable gapless playback? If so, do I just get EAC to
rip CDs as normal and the gaps will be in the flac files, or do I need
to create cue sheets? In addition, if I rip an album to a directory,
will the Touch automatically play through the whole album?

 3) Does the Touch take a long time to scan files on the USB drive?
Often, I might buy a CD, rip it to the USB drive and then reconnect the
drive to the Touch. Will this cause long browsing delays?

 Thanks in advance!!!

1) It SHOULD sound the same.

2), Just rip the files as flacs and it'll play gapless, tag the files
correctly, (any good ripper will do this) and you can play albums just
fine.

3), Not sure. Don't have mine yet

[SlimDevices: Touch] Couple of questions from a soon to be Touch owner

2010-04-07 Thread craiglester

I just ordered a touch from logitech :) yay.

Anyway.. I have a couple of questions..

(I'll be using the touch as a server btw, for itself and 1 SB3, with
approx 20,000 tracks - about 300 Gb of FLAC and MP3)

1. Does anyone have a recommendation for a small portable HDD that
comes with a psu (as the touch can't provide the required power). Seems
all the 2.5 drives are exclusively bus powered. I have a 3.5 but it's
a little whiney, and I dont like the idea of having to buy a powered
usb hub just for a small HDD.

2. On the limitations wiki it states that FLAC encoded 48Khz and
compressed with Best or -8 won't work. Does this mean if the file is
over 48 Khz AND encoded at -8, or is it either condition? I have a lot
of flac encoded at -8 (16/44.1, do I need to re encode all this to -5?

3. I can't seem to find what apps work on the touch.. Is there enything
like superdatetime? I really like the weather forecast on the clock.

oh and good work getting this out right now.. had a bad day yesterday,
then Saw in stock on the logitech site.. brightened my day
immeasurably :)
