Well really, whinning ? It is great that someone placed the free App for the upgrade, but the OP was looking for opinions, at least intially. Is this upgrade designed only to enhance the USB ? If not then the OP might need the information that its not helping the digital outputs such as the coaxial output? I agree with Wham79, I also thought it was more digital sounding with a colder harder sound than before. Also, the depth of the soundstage is gone. Everything is up front, good stereo seperation though. I continued having problems connecting to Squeezebox server. It seems that I also kept getting a messages to upgrade Java. I thought it was just typical annoying computer maintenance issues. But, yesterday I did upgrade Java and then the Squeezebox server connected. Yes, I would say the ethernet connection provides better dynamics, frequencey response and soundstage compared to going wireless ,it is not subtle. I also have had my touch upgraded by Boulder along with the Boulder Linear power supply. ___ 7.7.1 Upgrade update: Well, last night for the first time , the Squeezebox server on my computer operated and found my songs right away. The Touch however, downloaded another update. That took a few minutes. After that update, I was amazed at how much faster searching for songs is now with the 7.6.1. If all works good tonight, then I guess at least for now my Squeezebox is back to functioning as it should. Actually, I had both the Digital and the Analog Mods done to my Touch, but I have only used it with the digital out. I have 2000+ ripped Cd's on an external drive. I am using a Laptop with the Squeezebox server and the Touch is connected via ethernet from my Laptop. The ethernet connection sounds better to my ears than the wireless. I too have had many problems with the 7.6 and the beta 7.61. Before that my Touch worked great. It is very frustrating. Thanks so much for the reply. I am using a Laptop connected via ethernet to the touch. My songs have been ripped from 2000+ Cds using Itunes and are in Apple lossless and are stored on a 1 TB External drive. Everything worked fine before 7.6 install. Now even 7.61 does not help. My external hardrive is using the I drive on my computer. I have set the web library to Music folders C and music in I. And I have set the library to scan Music folders to I and the Music in I and every other combination I could think try. I can play with the settings and rescan and clear and rescan and eventually the 2000 Cd's become available and I can play my tunes. After loading 7.6 and having way too many problems , I then went back to 7.5 . It worked well for a day and then I starting having problems scanning my Music and I kept getting messages to upgrade to 7.6. Toby10 When I went back to 7.5. I noticed that I was also having problems stopping the Squeezebox server at the end of the day. The next day I couldnt get the web remote to work. I would have to rescan and then after scanning, it would only find something like 118 songs out of 2000 CD's ripped. So back went 7.61 rescanned and fiddled with the libray and after many tries the 2000 ripped CD's reappeared and played fine. I cannot get 7.6 to find my 2000 + albums that were placed on my external hardrive using Itunes. Everything worked fine for 9 months until I recently updated to 7.6. 7.61 also does nothing. Going back to previous versions 7.5 seems to work for a day then I can no longer use that version. The next day I cant access the web control. I get the message on the web control as Link broken or failed port. Well I uninstalled Squeezebox server. Then I downloaded 7.61 and cleared and rescanned everything. Now it seems all my music has been found. I had my Squeezebox Touch digital out modded by Bolder Cable. I also purchased the Bolder Linear Power supply. Awesome upgraded sound ! Kal, If you liked the Touch so much, how come it is rated as Class D ??? I am using the Dac portion on Cary 306 Pro and the Touch sounds very close to playing CD's through the Cary. I seem to have duplicates and triplicates of songs. My Itunes does not have the extra songs just the Squeezebox Touch. When I am playing the touch many songs repeat over and over. I would really like to delete the extras but I cant seem to be able to do it. [SlimDevices: Touch] External Hardrive plugged into USB on Touch
I own a HP 1TB Simple save which plugs into my computer with a standard USB A . This external hardrive contains about 1800 CD's. I have tried to plug the External Hardrive directly into the back of the Touch but with no luck. The Touch seems to find the USB device but there is no sound. I get an error message saying it seems to be looking for my (I) drive. This drive is the drive name I use when the HP External hardrive is plugged into my Laptop which has the music folders from Itunes on it. I admit, I am not to bright when it comes to understanding computers type language. But I will try, if someone can tell me if the external Hardrive will work directly plugged into the Squeezebox touch. Thanks for the reply. It is a powered (with its own power cord) Hardrive. I believe there is only music on it and no file starts with a period.
