I think that if you look at the Boulder cables circle on audiocircle
there is a parts express supply and maybe one other which they
recommend off the shelf (but with different connector). I think that
they aren't available in the uk

For digital output to a DAC, yes I believe that to be the case.
However, some DAC's are less tolerant of nearby SMPS supplies than
others..

2011-03-08 Thread Howard Turkster

Where could I buy a relatively cheap linear power supply solution to
replace the stock cable?

I have no DIY-abilities of my own for a project like this. Does anyone
else make or sell these at a reasonable price?

Already know all the arguments from cable-naysayers, so not really
interested in those types of comments, or their comments to this
comment. :)

Just would like some non-snarky alternative cord suggestsions. Anyone?
:)

For instance, do any DIY'ers on the board make them for others at a

2011-03-03 Thread MRinus

Hi,

according to a friends hint i ordered a used ZIP Drive (100MB) to use
it's PSU for my Touch.
Costs are not worth mentioning and the effect is great :)

The hints according avoiding of RF interference are for sure correct,
but no reason not to try out something which is in most (i would say
all) cases better than the original supply regarding the result ;)

If the best-of-two-worlds was even designed especially for the Touch
this might be the perfect thing.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Any experience with the Best of Two Worlds Solution supply

2010-09-06 Thread Flashgordon400

Finally managed to finish building a Sigma 11 power supply. All I can
say is WOW. I can now hear layers in the base on Pink Floyd tracks and
the image was instantly more three dimentional. All this is going to
depend on how revealing your set up is to start with. I discovered
power cords about a year ago and wished I had tried one 10 years ago.
The power supply to my Touch is a bigger improvement over just having
replaced my Odyssey 4 for Epic Super Twin by a long, long way. All I
will say is dont knock it until you have tried it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Any experience with the Best of Two Worlds Solution supply

2010-09-03 Thread Waldo Pepper

The power supply supplied with the SB will have to pass the most
stringent requirements in the world to be sold within the EU.

Unless there is a fault with your PSU, you are being conned. The Hifi
business is full of conns for the terminally stupid who can hear
differences depending on what time it is.

It's down to science and little else. A SMPS does radiate and if your
system picks it up then a simple rewriring can sort it. A linear PSU
can also radiate if badly designed.
