Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Composer as Search Item
Thanks for all the interesting feedback. I now see multiple ways of handling this problem. Since I rip with EAC, I have a separate heading for Composer, and that is what I use. These suggestions should permit me to find my music. johnreid johnreid's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20273 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101848 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Composer as Search Item
Like you, most of my music collection is classical. Some people put the composer as the artist, though I've always baulked at doing that. (To me Artist should be the name(s) of the performer(s).) In 7.7.3, in Setting/My Music you can select to include Composer in Artists, this will then bring up the composer (as well as other artists) when you search on artist. In 7.9 it seems to do this by default. Also in 7.9 there is an option to browse by composer. However, this option is currently flawed as it brings up a list of albums in composer order, instead of the (much more useful) list of composer names. Even as it is there is a bug if there is more than one composer for an album. Early on in my ripping I decided to adopt the following: To make each piece an album (rather than having a CD as an album). To name each album (which is now a single work) as: composer - piece - main performer(s) e.g. Album: Britten - Violin Concerto - Vengerov, LSO, Rostropovich By doing this I can search for the composer in albums and it will bring up a list of works, all neatly in alphabetical order. (Afterwords I learnt that this album naming format is not uncommon for classical collections using LMS/Squeezebox.) You can configure the composer menu in 7.9 to show a list of composers instead of albums. It's in Settings-Player Settings-Additional Browse Modes --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 7, the Universal App for iOS 7* pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101848 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Composer as Search Item
Numbskull that I am, I hadn't realised that you could set what is displayed when you do a Browse by Composer. Thanks pippin. To see a list of composers, in Settings/Advances/Additional Browse Modes - Name: Composers - Browse by: Artists - Contributor Roles: COMPOSER To see a list of albums sorted in composer order: select Browse by: Albums in the above BUT the Browse by: Albums does seem to have a bug when the tracks in an album have different composers. The album only seems to appear under one of the composers and the A-Z index at the top doesn't always tally with what is displayed. Could you mention that in the additional browse modes thread in the beta forum section? --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 7, the Universal App for iOS 7* pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101848 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Composer as Search Item
pippin, I posted about this in the Beta 7.9 Problems/Bugs thread. Is that enough or should I make additional posts? I realise that Michael is currently on holiday so it would be best to make it easy for him to get hold of any outstanding issues on his return, without having to trawl through everything that has been posted while he has been away. Yes, that was the point of asking you to post there. I think one post in that thread is OK.
[SlimDevices: Touch] Composer as Search Item
My music collection is highly classical, and to find items of interest, you need to be able to search under composer. Using Foobar, WMP or other music players, this is simple and easy. However, using LMS it is anything but, and I have not been able to figure out how to do it. Right now, I go into Foobar, find what I am looking for, and then using the computer, set it up to play what I chose. How can I do this under LMS?
