[SlimDevices: Touch] LMS all dicked up..... multiple issues.

2018-06-05 Thread oldmako

My old PC shat the bed, so I bought a new one expressly for music as I
had over a TB of music stored on my old machine and external drive.

Now, I have multiple failures.

1. Dupes. I have 2-3-4 and sometimes more copies of a whole mess of
my library. Some are due to tracks being contained on different
albums, and different versions, but most are just dupes on one CD.

2. "Unable to find" message on my Touch when I selecet a song and hit
play.

3. More than one copy of a CD. I suspect that this has something to do
with item 1, above.

4. When I try to manipulate anything on LMS software, I get the red
message "You are not authorized to make changes. When I follow the
steps to sign in, I get the same crap over and over again. It's
maddening.

5. Partial CDs. I look up Jimi Hendrix and there might only be 2 or 3
songs displayed for any one CD.

I have tried wiping the machine with the reset button. This did not
help.

This USED to be the best piece of audio gear that I own due to its
simplicity. My stereo is in one room, my thousand plus CD's another.
This made it SO easy. Now, its all crap and the machine is only useful
to listen to Pandora or Amazon, not my music collection.

Any suggestions???

I am planning on buying a used Apple MacBook and setting it up near my
stereo. I will also plug a TB or 2 storage device into the Mac. But,
will I have to reburn ALL of my music to get it back to "normal"? I
used this thing for years with zero issues. Now, its largely worthless.
I am verklempt beyond description.

Throw me a bone please, or suggest a replacement that won't break the
bank.

Thanks.

LMS couldn't be simpler so I doubt it is the source of your problems.
Install the latest release version: 7.9.1. Open LMS Control Panel and
confirm it is set to index only the folder(s) where your music library
is located. Make sure there are no shortcuts to other folders in the
target folders. Do a "Clear and Rescan" library rebuild. Post back with
results.

Firstly LMS is still the best piece of audio gear.
Second if all your music files still exist then all is not lost but make
sure you have a full backup before you go much further.
You haven't told us what OS your new PC has nor which version of LMS you
have installed.

The "Unable to find" error is probably due to your Touch looking to the
IP address of the old LMS server. After doing the above, on the back of
the Touch above the power plug is a reset button. Press and hold this
button until the Touch restarts. It will guide you through the initial
setup again. Post back with results.

Issues with duplicates and incomplete CDs are probably due to file
tagging problems unrelated to LMS.

Many thanks. I am out of town for a week, but will follow up once I
get home with the info requested. I really love this thing and want to
get it back in shape.

Thanks again.

Slow performance is probably due to the way your ripping software is
configured. When back, post additional information here and you'll get
help.

You should also clear your library and re-scan everything

When I open the software I have the following -

"There is no updated LMS version available"

And it always starts with "You dont have privileges to install
start/stop the LMS background service. Please start the control panel
from Windows Start Menu, via the right click context menu and click "Run
as Administrator"

When I do this, nothing really happens. I keep gettign the same
message. I am on the only one who uses the machine. I am not sure how
it is that I don't have the privilege.

The library used is:
C:\Users\BigFatDaddyMan\Music

I would suggest that first you download

http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v7.9.1/LogitechMediaServer-7.9.1.exe

Right click on the .exe and choose "Install as Administrator".

You can configure LMS to start up when you log in or start up the
system

Thank you, Ronnie. I will try that this weekend when I return home. I
am anxious to straighten out this mess. I abhor wandering over to the
CD pile and trying to find something specific. I have several hundred
and lousy eyesight. It's a pain now that I have been spoiled by the
Touch.

Make sure your playlistfolder is not inside your musicfolder
And there are not playlists inside your musickfolder

eg

Code:

  The library used is:
  C:\Users\BigFatDaddyMan\Music
  The playlist used is:
  C:\Users\BigFatDaddyMan\playlist *not C:\Users\BigFatDaddyMan\Music\playlist
*

Will do as soon as I get back home. I don't generally have, form nor
keep playlists so hopefully this won't be a contributing factor.

Some CD ripper software automatically creates .pls files or cue files.
This has caught me by surprise a few times in the past. I had files in
folders that I didn't know were there.
