There's the rub. The whole point of the delay was to get the Touch's built-in server working better. If you read though some of the other threads regarding painfully long scan times and outright crashes, it seems that work wasn't quite finished. I bought my Touch to use as a player with an existing server and that works great. However, I've done some tinkering with the built-in server. With a small thumb drive it worked very nicely. When I hooked up my main backup drive with 48,000 songs, it still hadn't finished a scan at 15 or 16 hours and it wouldn't play some material (M4A) that is supposed to be native. I'm a satisfied user because it does what I bought it to do, but it was sad to see reason for the delay - fixing the built-in server - still seems to have problems. I'm sure I'll tinker again, but I'm going to have to block out a good chunk of time where I don't want to play any music just to experiment. -- mlsstl mlsstl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9598 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77481 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

[SlimDevices: Touch] Logitech knocked it out of the park with the Touch!
I received my Touch today from Crutchfield. What an awesome product. It is of very sturdy construction and has a very classy look to it. The screen is a nice size and angled well to avoid glare. The touch screen is very responsive. I spent the evening using it as a controller just to get it going. After putting the kids to bed, I hooked it up to my headphone rig. It is a pleasure to use. I was worried about it being a little awkward using a touch screen, especially with my left hand, but I've gotten used to it quickly. It fits in nicely on the table next to my "man chair". I think I have a second one in my future to replace the SB3 in our family room. It really makes a great drop-in replacement for an SB3. My wife thought the Touch had a very "updated look". As far as setup, I had absolutely NO problems. This is in tremendous contrast with the Duet. I struggled with the Duet. I persevered because it was such a cool product and was VERY useful. The Touch is a dream to use and setup right off the bat! I think Logitech made good use of the time they took to delay the release - they have a solid product here, even on it's initial release. I wish them lots of success with it. Hopefully they can get their distribution issues straightened out. As a point of clarification - I'm using it as a player and controller, not a server. I may do that at one point to tinker. -- maggior Rich - Setup: 2 SB3s, 4 Booms, 1 Duet, 1 Receiver, 1 Touch (on order). SuSE 11.0 Server running SqueezeBoxServer 7.5.0, MusicIP, and SqueezeSlave.
